March 06, 2009, Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), the undisputed market leader in
utility vehicles, today unveiled the New, Mighty Muscular Scorpio which is also the first
product in India to offer a BS-IV compliant version. The Scorpio features the technologically
advanced mHawk engine and also incorporates Mahindra’s revolutionary Micro Hybrid

2. technology. The Scorpio’s new, mighty, muscular look will now be available across all
variants.
The New, Mighty Muscular Scorpio powered by the advanced mHawk engine starts at
an attractive Rs. 7.21 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Sleek new physique
This mighty, muscular, new Scorpio takes the Mahindra DNA of
tough and rugged to a different level altogether with its brawny
demeanour. The Scorpio’s
signature front grille now boasts a
glint of silver in the middle, while
the ‘gladiator’-like wrap-around bumpers provide the Scorpio
with enough armour to take on any other vehicle in its path.
The striking, new bonnet scoop adds teeth to the Scorpio’s
aggressive bearing, while chunky, easy to grip door handles
provide extra muscle.
The new, dual tone ORVMs are electrically powered and obey your
command at the touch of a button. The Scorpio’s rear footstep is now
seamlessly integrated with the rear bumper, allowing you to enter and
exit with ease.

4. Powerful, multi-focal headlights with a unique ‘Sunrays’ reflector
design, give the Scorpio hawk like vision, even on the darkest of
nights. These are complemented by sporty, new fog lamps. New
side cladding embossed with the ‘SCORPIO’ logo adds a dash of
style to India’s most loved SUV.
The Scorpio is now available in two new shades – Mystique
Purple and Toreador Red, giving this powerful SUV a royal touch.
Sink into luxury
The new, mighty muscular Scorpio’s brawny
appearance can be quite deceptive, however, for
once you step inside you will find yourself
enveloped in the lap of luxury. The new,
ergonomically designed seats have been
designed after meticulous ‘Body Pressure
Mapping’ and will literally ‘hug you’ with their
new foam contours. So now, no matter how
rough the ride, the seats will keep you planted
and comfortable through every bump and bend
in the road.
The plush interior cabin is draped in rich fabric which is available in two seductive colour
themes – black allure and a new tan and beige combination.
The swanky 2 Din Audio System is feature packed and enables
playback from MP3s and CDs, SD cards and USB devices, keeping
you entertained while on the road.
The Scorpio’s sporty new gear knob is racing-inspired
and easy to grip.
Powerhouse Performance
The new Scorpio’s macho, muscular exterior is complemented
by astounding power under the bonnet. The technologically
advanced 2.2 litre, 4-cylinder, mHawk diesel engine is what
makes the Scorpio the powerhouse that it is. It propels the
Scorpio from 0 to 60 km/h in 5.7 seconds flat and offers an
amazing 120 bhp of power, making you feel like the king of the
road.
The mHawk engine, introduced in November 2007 on the VLX, has been a runaway success
and will now be available on the VLX, LX and SLE variants of the Scorpio.
The 2nd generation Bosch Common Rail system with solenoid injectors intelligently manages
fuel supply to the engine. The 4-valves per cylinder and fuel spray design, give the mHawk

5. engine an enormous boost to fuel efficiency and helps conserve the environment too.
Moreover, the mHawk’s innovative 2-stage chain drive system and hydraulic lash adjuster cut
down engine noise levels drastically, making this monster deceptively quiet.
Gentle on the environment
The majestic new Scorpio is a gentle giant. It is the first Indian auto
brand to comply with BS-IV emission norms which makes it less
polluting. A version of the BS-IV compliant Scorpio VLX is now
available across metros.
Moreover, Mahindra’s radical Micro Hybrid technology allows the
engine to intelligently switch into standby mode when not required,
thus conserving fuel. A technological innovation developed by the
Mahindra Research & Development team with the support of M/S
BOSCH, the Micro Hybrid technology is based on the simple
principle of not burning fuel when it is not required. It automatically
detects moments, during the drive, when the vehicle is idle and
switches off the engine. The engine starts seamlessly as soon as
the driver depresses the clutch.
The vehicle, thus, burns less fuel, reducing pollution and conserving the environment. The
system also monitors health of the battery, safety requirements, engine temperature, etc. for a
trouble-free performance.
Micro Hybrid technology will now be available in the VLX and M2DI variants of the Scorpio.
