decadent picnic at Steenberg Vineyards during the festive season, offering visitors a great
Steenberg wine experience relaxing on the rolling lawn with friends and family. Picnics will

They suit corporate function requirements very well and are also ideal for end of year
parties and the like. We have boules sets, parasols and picnic blankets available for those
looking to enjoy themselves on the lawns in front of the winery. It is the philosophy of
Steenberg that the enjoyment of wine should be spontaneous and de-cluttered, yet still
offering an exceptional experience. This is exactly what the Steenberg picnics are about,
and this summer there will be little to beat the simple pleasure of a day spent enjoying the
magical setting of this working wine farm in the heart of the Constantia Valley! The
Steenberg picnic offers a medley of scrumptious goodies from the pantry of Food Fanatics,
one of Cape Town‘s leading catering companies. Picnic-goers may indulge in lip-smacking
fare that includes two Italian Panini‘s enjoyed with a generous spread of the accompanying
Oven roasted butternut and red onion spread with crushed pumpkin seeds or Smoked west
coast snoek pate, topped with tempting Cape Cheeses from Dalewood Fromage in
Klapmuts. The delicious Charcuterie selection provided by Martin Raubenheimer of Cure
Deli fame will no doubt add to the sensory delight, along with Home baked mushroom,
thyme and parmesan tartlet and a Summer couscous salad. Ending off on a sweet note,
melt-in-the-mouth Chocolate Brownies are sure to prove irresistible, while a bottle of one
of Steenberg‘s superb ‗food‘ wines rounds off this perfect picnic. Green consciousness is
part of the picnic package, with everything in the picnic hamper being biodegradable: from
the recycled wine cartons to food containers and cutlery. Added to this is the choice of
suppliers - based on their penchant for using local produce, and for supporting farmers who
employ humane farming methods. Guests are welcome to bring along a picnic blanket and
settle in a sunny spot on the lawn next to the reflection pools, or recline in the shade of a
tree after a bout of wine-tasting at the Tasting Bar in the Steenberg Winery. To work off
some energy a leisurely stroll through the vineyards, or a game of Boules in true French
style, may round off a yet another perfect day in the Cape Winelands. Click here to
download Steenberg Picnic Options. Pre-bookings are essential. Kiddies‘ picnics are
available on request, as are picnic baskets with special occasions and requests. Group
picnics are available by prior arrangement for Christmas parties and corporate functions

Sunday, 24th February. Villiera adds sparkling cheer to Bottelary Hills Winemakers
Lunch. The friendly wine folk of the Bottelary Hills – a sub-route of the Stellenbosch
American Express® Wine Routes – will give their ‗Pop Up‘ Winemakers Lunches a sparkling
summer spin when they set the tables for the first lunch at Villiera Estate on Sunday, 24
February. This elegant al fresco feast dishes up sumptuous fare by Chef Christophe Dehosse
of Joostenberg Bistro; the genuine, uncomplicated hospitality of this secluded wine
community, and select summer wines of Goede Hoop, Hartenberg, Kaapzicht, Mooiplaas
and Villiera. With the latter – one of the finest Cap Classique producers in the country –
playing host on this indulgent day, one is guaranteed an exuberant Winelands experience
when the corks start popping. Nestled north-west of Stellenbosch, along the R304 and M23,
the Bottelary Hills Wine Route reveals an untapped world of quality wine to both discerning
wine drinkers and those who appreciate Cape heritage. Steeped in history, this ‗hidden‘
wine route is home to some of the oldest wine farms in the country including Beyerskloof,
Bellevue, Goede Hoop, Groenland, Hartenberg, Kaapzicht, Mooiplaas, Stellenrust and
Villiera. The Bottelary Hills themselves contribute to the complex terroir of the soil and
help the area produce some spectacular red wines. The slopes of these hills are kept cool
by the ocean breezes of both False Bay and Table Bay, allowing the area to also produce
some award-winning white wines and Méthode Cap Classiques. The great charm of this wine
route comes from the fact that most of the farms have been family-owned for many
generations. This rich sense of history, commitment and family radiates in both the wines
and the welcoming atmosphere of this area. If you like the sound of a lazy Sunday lunch in
the Winelands, with great food and fine wine shared at tables where strangers become
friends, then the Winemakers Lunch at Villiera will be the perfect end to your weekend.
This unadulterated experience of true Winelands camaraderie costs R250 per person and
includes a four course meal and the wines on the day. To book your seats contact 021 886
8275 or send an email to marketing@wineroute.co.za. Pre-bookings are essential as

Saturday, 20th April Bot River bares all at Barrels & Beards. The wine route‘s best post-
harvest beards and wines revealed. Wine beauties meet hairy beasts when the colourful
wine community of Bot River sets the stage for its annual Barrels & Beards celebration to
toast the local winemakers‘ post-harvest looks and latest fruits of their labour on Saturday,
20 April. Each year the laidback wine folk of this prized yet unspoilt Winelands pocket in
the Overberg, follow a tradition of ‗no shaving or barber visits for the duration of the
harvest season‘, only to reveal their scruffy facades during a fun-filled ‗beard parade‘. And
this year‘s event promises one big hairy hullabaloo. Along with esteemed judges, guests will
get to vote for the boldest beard in Bot River and sharing the spotlight with raging beards
and monster mo‘s will be the latest cellar gems to be sipped and savoured straight from
the barrels. ―We only get one chance a year to make the best wines we can and we invite
enthusiasts to come and rub shoulders with our winemakers as we flaunt our whiskers and
wines,‖ shares winemaker Sebastian Beaumont of Beaumont Estate. The quaint Bot River
Wine Route is home to an eclectic bouquet of conservation-conscious wineries ranging from
historic and time-honoured to ultra modern, state of the art cellars that are all committed
to individualistic, quality-driven wines. Joining Beaumont at this joyous occasion will be
Barton, Eerstehoop, Feiteiras, Gabriëlskloof, Genevieve, Goedvertrouw, Luddite,
Maremanna, Rivendell and Wildekrans. ―At the Barrels & Beards evening we pay tribute to
the pampering that went into our wines and not ourselves over the past few months,‖ adds
bubbly beaut Melissa Nelsen, proprietor of Genevieve Cap Classique. This exclusive evening
includes a hearty ‗terroir to table‘ potjiekos dinner of unique tastes and produce from the
area, whilst cool-climate, top quality wines from more than eight local producers will be on
sale. The ‗boereorkes‘, Die Stoepsitters, will add sakkie-sakkie vibes to this homegrown
affair. Barrels & Beards takes place at The Old Shed at Anysbos Farm on the Swartrivier
Road, Bot River and starts at 5pm. A shuttle service will be available on the evening in
support of responsible drinking. If last year‘s sell-out inaugural Barrels & Beards event is
anything to go by, tickets will be flying fast so make sure you get hold of yours today.
Tickets costs R250 per person and include a complimentary barrel tasting of the latest Bot
River wines, a souvenir wine glass, dinner, music entertainment and real country
hospitality. For more information or to book your tickets contact Nicolene Heyns at
nicolene@botriverwines.co.za. Seating is limited and no kids under 12 allowed. Bot River
is en route to Hermanus on the N2 – a mere hour‘s drive from Cape Town.

We have boules sets, parasols and picnic blankets available for those looking to enjoy themselves on the lawns in front of the winery. It is the philosophy of Steenberg that the enjoyment of wine should be spontaneous and de-cluttered, yet still offering an exceptional experience. This is exactly what the Steenberg picnics are about, and this summer there will be little to beat the simple pleasure of a day spent enjoying the magical setting of this working wine farm in the heart of the Constantia Valley! The Steenberg picnic offers a medley of scrumptious goodies from the pantry of Food Fanatics, one of Cape Town‘s leading catering companies. Picnic-goers may indulge in lip-smacking fare that includes two Italian Panini‘s enjoyed with a generous spread of the accompanying Oven roasted butternut and red onion spread with crushed pumpkin seeds or Smoked west coast snoek pate, topped with tempting Cape Cheeses from Dalewood Fromage in Klapmuts. The delicious Charcuterie selection provided by Martin Raubenheimer of Cure Deli fame will no doubt add to the sensory delight, along with Home baked mushroom, thyme and parmesan tartlet and a Summer couscous salad. Ending off on a sweet note, melt-in-the-mouth Chocolate Brownies are sure to prove irresistible, while a bottle of one of Steenberg‘s superb ‗food‘ wines rounds off this perfect picnic. Green consciousness is part of the picnic package, with everything in the picnic hamper being biodegradable: from the recycled wine cartons to food containers and cutlery. Added to this is the choice of suppliers - based on their penchant for using local produce, and for supporting farmers who employ humane farming methods. Guests are welcome to bring along a picnic blanket and settle in a sunny spot on the lawn next to the reflection pools, or recline in the shade of a

  • 11. wine drinkers and those who appreciate Cape heritage. Steeped in history, this ‗hidden‘ wine route is home to some of the oldest wine farms in the country including Beyerskloof, Bellevue, Goede Hoop, Groenland, Hartenberg, Kaapzicht, Mooiplaas, Stellenrust and Villiera. The Bottelary Hills themselves contribute to the complex terroir of the soil and help the area produce some spectacular red wines. The slopes of these hills are kept cool by the ocean breezes of both False Bay and Table Bay, allowing the area to also produce some award-winning white wines and Méthode Cap Classiques. The great charm of this wine route comes from the fact that most of the farms have been family-owned for many generations. This rich sense of history, commitment and family radiates in both the wines and the welcoming atmosphere of this area. If you like the sound of a lazy Sunday lunch in the Winelands, with great food and fine wine shared at tables where strangers become friends, then the Winemakers Lunch at Villiera will be the perfect end to your weekend.
