2. Amid the spread of the corona virus which is normally known as covid19 that across
the world are reeling under, we find ourselves necessitated to conform to non-ordinary
daily living routines. However, it’s important for us to, at first hand understand what
this virus of which has now been declared a global cris, is. To be frank and concise,
the corona virus can be defined as a type of virus that mainly triggers the respiratory
tract system. To elaborate on this definition, it mainly ‘attacks’ the upper respiratory
tract as well as lower respiratory tract which include the lungs. Transmission, just like
other common viruses, can be through person to person contact and may thrive under
unhygienic circumstances. Although people who have contracted the virus may show
non to little symptoms, symptoms such as fatigue, fever, and shortness of breath may
occur amongst many others. Keeping the above-mentioned in mind, we can also look
back at the historical virus famously known as the ‘Black Death’ and ultimately ask
the question, in what way do we relate these two deadly virus as this essay will
conversate more about it in the following components below.
We can state with no doubt that this pandemic has sort of reshaped and realigned life
for many. In accordance of Joseph P. Byrne “the very term ‘daily life’ implies some
level of normality, routine, consistency, typicality, stability. But in the plague time, this
‘daily life’ was suspended for virtually everyone” (2006). Speaking from a personal
point of view and especially for the youth which dominates the worlds population, this
new nom has intensified mental health challenges as well as we have had to forcefully
adjust to drastic shift from on- campus learning to full force digital learning. This means
for many students; the priority now is not only to do well for the academic but also get
used to the new normality of doing work online. On the other hand, we can safely say
that this pandemic has also exposed the quality of governance and scale of inequality
for the South African government. While some students are continuing with online
learning and the academic year, a great deal of them are still left behind and not able
to carry on with work.
It is worth noticing that contrary to the past years, the corona virus is already changing
how we live, work and communicate and by virtue of that, is reshaping government,
healthcare, commerce, and education. We have also witnessed this in multiple forms
over the past few weeks in our very own communities. As a community member of a
mostly black dominated environment, I have seen how local businesses have been
forced to shut down in order to minimize interaction amongst community members.
The lockdown strategy has been very effective in flattering the curve but quite
detrimental to business owners worldwide. In light of all this, I still have firm belief in
the fact that these businesses still have a chance to come back even stronger post
covid19 as a lot goods and services will be in high demand seeing that a lot of people
will be trying by all means to combat the damage done by the pandemic. Additionally,
there has been a conspiracy that the deadly covid19 is not really a virus but a
bacterium as people get to recover in some cases. Moreover, it’s is stated that it an
instalment of 5G that is why a lot people die it because the radiant is too high for body
3. cells in a human body of which causing them to fail resulting to so called symptoms of
the virus.
It has been quite normal to stumble upon a great deal of debates doing the rounds on
social media as well as in day to day conversations with friends and family. From what
I have observed and concluded from these debates is that quite several people are
frustrated and overwhelmed by the restrictions in the mobility and interaction. The
primary spike in the number of infections in South Africa was non exponential but
rather sudden went to lockdown. So, what many people are concerned about is how
the country is expected to progress during and post this pandemic. For example, the
strain this pandemic will exert on our health care system in terms of the availability of
resources and services. How are hospitals expected to accommodate high risk
patients when they were already struggling to do this before corona virus?
It is not just the health care industry, which is under pressure to find solutions, but
other industries are also under a lot of strain and it is fundamental to not only seek for
short-term solutions but to also consider long-term solutions for these sectors.
Furthermore, corona virus can be indeed related to ‘black death’ pandemic because
what is actually happening during covid19 as mentioned above it’s what exactly
happened in the historical virus famously called ‘black death’ as in the 14th century
according to Joseph Byrne social impacts are very similar to covid19 even they way
people corresponded towards the pandemic of ‘black death’ (2006).
In conclusion, the above paragraphs highlights the sectors of which Black Death being
the normality and of human daily lives relates to covid19 as both these viruses cause
economic downfall, death, frustration, communities, Malls, swimming pools, sports
and tuckshops shutter down to ease on the virus spread accordingly with levels .
