This document discusses perspectives on using the Xerte software to create learning objects. It describes Diane's creation of 4 learning objects from a style guide to engage students in 10-20 minute sections. It outlines some cons like sourcing images legally and inability to undo work. • Used xerte as a group to display our own
ideas about primary sources
• The main purpose of the object was to:
1. Convey research in an engaging way
2. Teach your audience
3. Demonstrate your own knowledge and
understanding

• Xerte was useful in the assignment - it tested
the students knowledge through interactivity.
• May help students who learn in different
ways, such as visual learners.
• An alternative way to demonstrate students’
knowledge of a topic rather than just essays

• Working in a group with xerte was difficult –
much easier to do it individually
• Not all students adapt well to technology
• When there is a problem with xerte the forum
on www.xerte.org.uk is the only help available
• Still needs improvements as it can be ‘glitchy’
and work on certain computers but not others

10. Differences of producing and
consuming xerte objects
• Producing the objects is more beneficial
as xerte is a creative output for students
and is a different way to display their
knowledge.
• Consuming the objects can be useful for
students due to the interactive elements of
xerte. Therefore, I believe xerte would be
best to create revision resources.
