BLOCKCHAIN
TECHNOLOGY BEHIND
BITCOIN

WHAT IS BLOCKCHAIN?
• It is a latest buzz in today's industry.
• It is an implementation of digital
currency.
• Came into existence with bitcoin.
• It is a list of records secured using
cryptography.
HISTORY BEHIND BLOCKCHAIN
• First work was done by Stuart Haber and W.Scott Stornetta.
• They incorporated Merkel trees.
• First blockchain was incorporated by Satoshi Nakamoto.
• He introduced Hashcash-like method.
FEATURES OF
BLOCKCHAIN
• Peer to peer network
• Hash encryption
• Proof of work
• Blockchain program
PEER TO
PEER
NETWORK
• Runs on distributed peer
to peer network.
• Ledger is available for
everyone who is a part of
blockchain.
• No single person can
manipulate the system.
• This maintains a
consistency throughout
the system.
HASH ENCRYPTION
• Data is stored using hash functions.
• Small changes are enough to create a large
variation.
• Hash encryption is unidirectional.
• So if any tries to manipulate, output changes.
• Ex :hello world =dqohqleflqidq4431
• Ex: hello world!=lefhqlhhof5444654
PROOF OF WORK
• It is a mathematical proof to create a new block.
• This work is done by special people called miners.
• Miners validate transactions and also solve mathematical
puzzles.
• The solution for above proof is said to be nonce.
BLOCKCHAIN PROGRAM
• Used to perform multiple programs.
• Used to create and implement rules in blockchain.
• Different blockchains have different program in them.
ETHEREUM
• Currency Issuance
• Decentralized Autonomous
Organizations
• Smart Property
• Smart Contracts
SMART CONTRACTS
• Written in solidity language
• Used to create rules in
blockchain program
• It is a contract specified between
two or multiple users
• If a contract is performed it is
available to all people for
reference
ORGANIZATIONS THAT USE
BLOCKCHAIN
• BitcoinStore
• Coingig
• The Swiss Pharmacy
• All Things Luxury
• Cheap Air
INDUSTRIES THAT BLOCKCHAIN
DISRUPTS
• Financial Services
• Voting
• Real Estate
• Supply Chain Management
FINANCIAL SERVICES
In September 2016 Barclays started using blockchain.
Very soon NASDAQ will start blockchain.
VOTING
• Estonia is the first to implement Blockchain based E
voting system
• Followmyvote is the first open source blockchain
voting system
DEMERITS OF
BLOCKCHAIN
• Extremely volatile
• Crime
• Problem for not tech
SESSION IN A MINUTE
• What is Blockchain?
• Blockchain Technologies
• Proof of work and programs
• Ethereum and Smart Contracts
• Blockchain Applications
