Q1:
Can you pull data from
linked data APIs? e.g.
https://environment.data.go
v.uk/catchment-
planning/ui/reference
environment.data.gov.uk provide
an API where the user can specify
response format. Of these, ArcGIS
GeoEvent Server can natively read
csv & json (https://bit.ly/2Jo3RWS).
Links to existing data can be made
using the Field Enricher
Processors https://bit.ly/2WJ7ud5

Q2:
Is the GeoEvent server only
available for Enterprise
customers?
A:
ArcGIS GeoEvent Server is a license
role of ArcGIS Server.
(https://bit.ly/2Huk0GT) At present
ArcGIS Enterprise needs to be
installed on physical or virtual
infrastructure and is not available as
Software as a Service (SaaS). ArcGIS
Analytics for IoT is coming, however
which may provide the desired
functionality in a SaaS solution
(https://bit.ly/2HkDnTO).

Q3:
Do you need to design with the
screen size of the end user in
mind? e.g. will a desktop sized
design automatically look
good on a mobile device?
A:
Desktop sized dashboards don't tend
to look great on a mobile or tablet if
there's a lot of elements on the screen.
You can find info on designing
dashboard with mobile users in mind
here: https://www.esri.com/arcgis-

support/strategies-best-practices-for-

smartphone/

Q4:
Regarding the bar chart - can
you display data on a
secondary axis (like you
would in Excel)?
A:
Yes. This can be achieved by using
Grouped Charts. Grouped charts are
used for showing information about
different subgroups of main categories.
A separate bar or line represents each
of the subgroups, which are displayed
in different colors to distinguish them.
When configuring a grouped chart, be
sure to limit the amount of information
to ensure it's easy to understand.

Q5:
Re: Irish Rail data - were you
writing the real time data into
a hosted feature layer and
then querying that data?
A:
Yes. I was using ArcGIS GeoEvent
Server to make a GET request to the
Irish Rail API which was returning a
response in XML. GeoEvent was writing
the results to Stream Service using
TrainID attribute as the unique identifier
for each train. Finally, a hosted feature
service was configured to display only
the latest details of each train. This
feature service was then used with the
Dashboard, however the Stream
Service could also have been used.

Q7:
When you are creating a
dashboard, how do you
create elements which are the
same size? e.g. 40 by 50 and
make sure that all the
indicator boxes are the same?
A:
Unfortunately this is not currently
available but the good news is that
this is in Esri Inc's Dev roadmap and
will be part of a future release. More
info on that here:
