The Montseny Nature Reserve is located in Catalonia, Spain. It is one of the largest nature reserves in Catalonia, covering an area of 30,120 hectares across 18 municipalities. The Montseny mountains have pronounced reliefs and a rich ecological variety, supporting plant and animal communities typical of the Mediterranean, European, and alpine biomes. Due to its biodiversity, UNESCO declared it a biosphere reserve in 1978.

The Nature reserve of the Montseny is one of 12
natural spaces that manages the Deputation of
Barcelona in Catalonia (Spain) and places in the
Mountain chain prelitoral Catalan, of that it is
the highest clump. It is placed between the
regions of Osona, Vallés Oriental and La selva.

The Nature reserve of the Montseny is to
approximately 50 km from Barcelona and
occupies an extension of 30.120 ha distributed
between eighteen municipalities that belong to
three regions (Osona, la Selva and the Vallés
Oriental). His natural limits are Arbúcies, the
high courses of her Major was laughing and of
the river Gurri, the Congost and the page of the
Vallés.

8. VEGETATION
There are reproduced the vegetable formations
typical of the Mediterranean in the low parts
(groves of evergreen oaks, alcornocales and
pinegroves), of the medium rainy mountain
more above (grove of evergreen oaks
montañero and oakwoods), of Central European
environments over 1.000 m (beeches and firs)
and, even, of subAlpine environments in the
summits (bushes and meadows).

10. WEATHER
The rough relief and the orientation do that the climate
is very diverse. The rigorous climate of the high
mountain does not have anything to see with the
benign climate of the plains and sunny terraces where
one agrees the core of the people. Montseny's
vegetation also is very differentiated, depending on the
altitude.
12. The village of the Montseny
• Montseny's municipality, known former with
the name of the holder of his parish, Holy
Julià de Montseny, has nowadays an
extension of 27,02 km ², is placed to the
southern slope of the mountain of the
Montseny and is the only people of the
clump that supports the name.
13. Socio-economic information
Traditionally, the people of Montseny had based
his economy on the agriculture and the forest
exploitation, complemented, on a low degree,
by the ranching. The exploitation of the forest,
of which he was taking advantage practically of
everything, was also a prominent activity for
centuries.
