Waterfall taps
By Paul Dorrington | Published May 27, 2014
Waterfall taps are taps with an open spout that create a waterfall effect. They’re available for sinks as well as baths. They are currently very popular and they are a stunning, eye-catching addition to any
bathroom. They are often made from solid brass and finished with stylish chrome, but come in many different shapes, sizes and colours.
You can even buy waterfall taps that have an LED light that illuminates depending on the temperature of the water – 0 to 30 degrees C is blue, 30 to 40 degrees C is green, 40 to 50 degrees C is red and
50 to 100 degrees C is flashing red.
These taps look very aesthetically pleasing, but it’s important to know that they require a high-pressure water system in order to operate properly. They are suitable where there is a combination boiler, a
pressurised system, and gravity fed systems but it’s always important to check with the manufacturer’s instructions. There are many different types of waterfall taps available and all will have different
requirements for water pressure, but they all operate according to a minimum water pressure in order to work properly – frequently this is around 0.5 bar but this does vary. After all, there’s no point in
going to the trouble and expense of installing great looking taps if they’re going to be impractical and not function properly.
Reviewers have often stated that if waterfall taps are in situ in the bath that the bath takes a little longer to fill than with other types of taps. This is even when the water pressure exceeds what is necessary
to have the taps fully operational. But if you’re of a patient disposition and are determined to have waterfall taps then this shouldn’t be too inconvenient.
The contemporary eye-catching design of the taps and their recent affordability has seen a surge in sales of waterfall taps – they’re an excellent way of making a style statement, so much so that they even
make washing and cleaning your teeth something to look forward to. There’s a huge range of waterfall mixer taps on the market so adding the wow-factor to your bathroom has never been easier.
