History of Baseball inHistory of Baseball in
the United Statesthe United States
by Bryce Alonsoby Bryce Alonso
What Started It All?What Started It All?
There have been
many sports in the
history of the
United States. But,
baseball has truly
always been
America’s
pastime.
In the Beginning...In the Beginning...
Baseball was not all fun
and games when it first
originated.
When baseball
originated, african
americans were not
allowed to play with the
white men.
Early African American BaseballEarly African American Baseball
Since the “blacks” weren’t allowed to play with the
“whites”, the African Americans went and built their
own league that they could play in.
This league was publicly know as the Negro League.
Players in the Negro LeaguePlayers in the Negro League
White racial riots would come to
watch these games just to taunt and
make fun of these players.
These “fans” would call names, throw
food, and even threaten them. This
cruelty needed to stop.
Jackie Robinson
was the first black
baseball player to
play in the MLB.
He played for the
Brooklyn Dodgers
(Now known as the
Los Angeles
Dodgers).

42
There has been a movie created about
Jackie Robinson’s baseball life.
This movie is called 42 because that was
his number in the major leagues.

Satchel Paige
Satchel Paige could have
been one of the best
pitchers of all time in
Major League Baseball.
Most of his statistics
were not recorded
because he played most
of his career in the
Negro Leagues.
Satchel Paige
George “Babe” RuthBabe Ruth is
arguably one of
the best baseball
players of all
time.
He played for the
New York Yankees.
(one of the most
successful teams
ever)
Lou Gehrig
• Lou Gehrig was
arguably one of the
best 1st baseman
ever to play the
game.
• Lou Gehrig died of
what is known these
days as Lou Gehrig’s
disease.
Lou gehrig’s disease
• This disease is a disease
that effects the brain and
the spinal chord.
• This is a fatal (deathly)
disease and has no cure as
of today.
Yankees
•Lou Gehrig played for
the NewYorkYankees
along with Babe Ruth.
New York Yankees
The Yankees are
viewed as the most
successful team of all
time.
They have had some
of the best players
like: Babe Ruth, Lou
Gehrig, and also
Mickie Mantle (not in
Slide Show)
Aroldis Chapman
Fastest pitcH
• Aroldis Chapman in currently
playing for the Cincinnati
Reds.
• He holds the fastest pitch of
all time in baseball, standing at
105 mph.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3wJ-HgsnCg
conclusion
• In conclusion the reason
I wanted to do this report
is:
• To teach about the pastime
of baseball.
• To teach how African
Americans were
discriminated in the “old
days” of America.
Thanks for watching!!
