Fernand Leger's painting "The City" incorporated elements of Cubism such as combining multiple views of objects within a single image and fusing objects with their surroundings. Cubism, as defined by John Golding, is a construction of painting in terms of a linear grid that combines abstract and representational elements. Leger's painting drew from Cubism, abstraction, Renaissance perspective, and the subject matter of the city.
