Lost property evaluation 2

  1. 1. Lost PropertyEvaluation Activity 2 | How does our media product represent particular social groups
  2. 2. Kyron Fortune as our nameless protagonistand John Boyega as Moses
  3. 3. Stereotypical view of both ofthese charactersBoth characters play the leading role in the film. Moses followsthe more stereotypical view of black in a society due to himrepresenting the majority of teenagers that come from councilestates and suburban areas. Throughout his role he eventuallybreaks from this stereotype and starts looking out for othersrather than just himselfKyron in a way flips the views of the black stereotype due tohim being the protagonist or so called hero within the film.Rather than him being in full control of the situation, he is moreunaware /confused compared to anyone else in the film. He isonly doing what he is told to do due to him lacking choice. Thisbreaks typical conventions rather than him trying to fit into agang orientated social group.
  4. 4. ArchetypeMoses is a hero but doesn’t always do the right things morally. This therefore at times can lead the audience to question hisactions and make a final judgement on him as a characterwhen they get to know him more.Kyron on the other hand is a hero who fights for what hebelieves is right for both himself and society. The only differenceis that Kyron suffers from being misunderstood by thecommunity around him with many feeling as if his actions aren’tbringing benefits but problems. This is not the case however. Heis only misunderstood due to the colour of his skin and the wayin which he dresses. He also comes across extremelyintimidating due to his size but behind all the anger his faceconveys he is a kind hearted character.
  5. 5. Values and BeliefsMoses is a character that on the outside seems like he is aperson that only cares about himself and know one else. Deepdown though behind the mask he cares about his friends andfamily and makes sure that they are safe and always puts thembefore himself. He does this however in a way where he doesnot involve his reputation whilst focussing on his family forexample.Kyron is a character that always puts himself before others. He isan extremely religious character but at times questions thepresence of God when he is in a cry for help. The only reasonhe is in the situation he is in throughout the film is due to thestruggle of his family and him wanting to help them. All hehopes for is for a better life for him and his family.
  6. 6. Appearance and CostumeMoses throughout the film is shown wearing things tracksuitbottoms and hoodies which is an extremely stereotypical viewof the suburban dress code within London. It also gives arepresentation of his class in society just looking at the things inwhich he wears. He never usually smiles and, similar to Kyron, has a constant angry looking face which creates the extremelystereotypical view of a black young male from a suburbanarea/council estate.Kyron dresses extremely similar to Moses also wearing hoodiesand tracksuit bottoms. This again follows the extremelystereotypical views of how young black males are representedin sociaty. This in turn can lead to many people having a falsemisconception of a character on first glance.
  7. 7. Relationships with othersAt first glace Moses seems like an extremely reservedand antisocial character keeping himself to himselfand not interfering in anybody elses business unless ineffects him. As we get deeper into the film however,we see Moses caring for others like his family andfriends. Similar to Kyron he is an extremelymisunderstood character.Kyron on the other hand makes it evident that hecares for his family and friends around him and wouldgo to extreme lengths just to keep them safe, even ifhe’s putting himself in danger.
  8. 8. Similarities- They both break the black stereotype- They’re both similar age- They have the same/ similar dress codes- Both characters care about their family and friends- They are both from London- Can be both seen as role models- Both of them have character development- They both break away from a misunderstood cliché stereotype
  9. 9. DifferencesKyron as a character is open to how close he is with hisfamily and friends. Although he dresses the way he does,he is a kind hearted religious young man. He takes thingsextremely seriously if him or his family are in danger. Hedoes not enjoy violence or hurting people for that matterand he is happy with his position in life.Moses at times enjoys causing trouble and being violent. He comes across and an antisocial character that doesn’tshare his feelings and keeps himself to himself. Moses isn’thappy with his position in life. He fears failure and wants tosucceed
