2. Question 1- Gender ‘Are you Male or Female?’ I selected to ask the audience for there gender so I could ensure I was given a fair result, as music taste may vary between gender. 11 males and 9 females answered the questionnaire, this gives fair results.
3. Question 2- Age What age category do you fall in? Getting the audience to give me their age helps to understand the changes in music taste, through the changes in age. I broke the possible answers up into 7 categories making collating the data more easy.The graph shows that the majority of people that I asked were in the 16 to 18 category, however I managed to get at least one person from each category.
4. Question 3- How Often? ‘How many times a week do you watch music videos?’ This question allows me to understand if the people I questioned are likely to know about music videos and what conventions make-up a good music video. The graph shows that the majority of people watch music videos 3-5 times a week or Everyday. This helps me in my research as I now know my results are from people who frequently consume music videos.
5. Question 4- How? ‘How do you watch music videos?’ This question helps me to understand how most people are viewing music videos, this will help to understand how music videos are viewed through the target audience. The audience were able to select more than one option for this question, the results show that by a long way, Music Television Channels and Internet sites, such as YouTube are by far the biggest means of viewing music videos.
6. Question 5- Genre? ‘What genre of music is your favorite/ watch the most?’ This question gave 10 options for the audience to select from, it helps me to understand what type of music my audience are listening too and therefore what they expect from a music video. The results show that most people prefer ‘Pop’, ‘Indie’ & ‘RnB’ music to any others, although the audience did like a wide spread of genres.
7. Question 6- Important? ‘Do you feel that music videos are vital the success of a music single?’ This question will give me more information on if the audience feel that a music video is relevant to a song. The graph clearly shows that 19 out of the 12, feel that a music video is relevant and vital to the success of a song.
8. Question 7- Live performance? ‘Have you been to see a live performance? If so, did you enjoy it?’ This question gives an in-sight into whether the audience prefer the performance side of a song, helping me to understand how much of my video needs to be made up of performance shots, and how much narrative. The results show that 15 people, the majority, enjoy a live performance and therefore I know to incorperatethis into my music video.
9. Question 8- Narrative? ‘Do you prefer music videos that follow a narrative/story to the lyrics?’ This question will help me to understand if audiences prefer a music video that illustrates, amplifies or is disjunctive. Further helping me produce my Music Video. The results show that generally people prefered music videos that were of a Narrative form, this is my favorite type of music video too.
10. Question 9- Special Effects? ‘Do you prefer music videos with special effects?’ This question will help me when coming to editing my music video, do the audience prefer music videos which have effects added during the editing process? The results show that people do prefer videos with special effects and that therefore music videos that seem more like movies.
11. Question 10- Favorite Music Video? ‘What is your favorite music video?’ This question allows me to do some further research into what the audience like about music videos, A few of the answers are shown to the right. I can now go and watch some of the videos and take note of what type of video it is, Disjuncture? Illastrative? Michael Jackson -Thriller Lady Gaga -Telephone Katy Perry -Firework Geraldine McQueen -Knew Him So Well
