  2. 2. What is Humanities? A set of discipline that includes grammar, philosophy, literature, history & music. Man is the center of Humanities.
  3. 3. Derived from the Latin word “humanus” means human. It records or interprets man’s thinking, feeling, regrets, aspirations, failures & what he is supposed to do & not to do in the world. It gives comfort/relief from the boring world.
  4. 4. Art that is the by-product of humanities is looking at things beyond matters.
  5. 5. Why Study Humanities? It is true that the subject does not direct anyone to finding fortune. The question becomes a demonstration of a complete ignorance to the true meaning of life.
  6. 6. To equip students with culture that is necessary to complete his being. St. Thomas Aquinas “Art is opposite to the practical”. Art is concerned on something that lives beyond matters.
  7. 7. Branches of Humanities
  8. 8. Fine Arts It is a creative art, especially visual art whose products are to be appreciated primarily or solely for their imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual content.
  9. 9. Paintin g This is a kind of art, which main process is applying color or pigment to a surface.
  10. 10. Literatu re  This is a kind of art which main medium are the written words.  There are two main classifications Prose & Poetry.
  11. 11. Performing Arts  It includes a range of disciplines which are performed in front of a live audience, including theatre, music, and dance. Theatre, music, dance and object manipulation, and other kinds of performances are present in all human cultures.
  12. 12. Dancin g It combines movement of feet, hands & body in rhythm.
  13. 13. Balle t  It is a stage performance of narrating a story by combining dance & music w/o a dialogue.
  14. 14. Singing/Musi c The art of putting together the sounds in order.
  15. 15. Movi e Motion picture that blends together the fundamental & vital elements of music, painting, literature & music.
  16. 16. Theat er  This is another form of stage performance of a play or drama w/ basic medium is dialogue.
  17. 17. Practical Arts  It is an art or craft, as woodworking or needlework, that serves a utilitarian purpose
  18. 18. Sculptu re  It refers to the breaking & or piecing together a hard stone or other shapeable materials to represent something imagined or real.
