What is your leadership?
Leaders deliver through their teams
.
So which styles are you are using?
 Leaders must know who their juniors are and
how to get results from them
 They don’t have just one leadership style,
they have several. And they know when to use
the right style, at the right time, with the
right person.
 They do it by using leadership styles that
increase motivation, extra effort and
performance.
There is no right or wrong leadership style.
Great leaders respond to the needs of the
situation.
 Six leadership styles have the biggest impact
on team climate and performance:
 Authoritative
 Let me tell you where we’re going as a team.
 The leader directs the team to their goal, it
may encourage team work if blended with a
bit of consultation.
 Affiliative
 People first, task second
 This the human resource oriented approach
to management. The argument is take care of
me and I will do the work well.
 High investment in developing the human
capital is what characterizes the style.
 There is high motivation and the output of
high quality and high efficiency.
 Democratic
 Let’s decide together
 This is the most important and efficient
leadership style.
 It encourages team work, ownership of
project as well as its failure and success and
most importantly team work.
 Coaching
 What did you learn? What would you do
differently? What can we improve on?”
 The followers take a learning work
environment and improve on the next
project.
 Team work is realized and motivation leads
to better future assignments.
 Pacesetting
 If you can’t do it right, I’ll do it myself
 The team learns from the more experienced
leader.
 It prepares the team for a better performance
in future.
 Coercive
 Just do it the way I tell you to.
 The military style.
 may lead to low motivation, high discipline
and good work quality if working with a
cooperative team.
 the leader must be having excellent
information or better informed than the
others.
 The followers do not own the process and
only work as robots
 No one leadership style is the sure cure for all
ills but a combination of all of them is best.
 Emphasis I to know who is your junior and
apply the right mix of leadership styles
