3. McKenney’s replaced an aging, inefficient HVAC system as part of a large
expansion to an office building in Charlotte, North Carolina.
4. The Challenge
The existing HVAC system, with the exception of the central plant, for the
entire facility needed to be replaced with a new system in just 12 weeks.
The rebuild included new terminal units, water-cooled AC units, split
system units, exhaust fans, air distribution, ductwork and piping for more
than 200,000 square feet of space.
The Solution
McKenney’s reassessed and reassigned key personnel weekly to optimize
available resources. The crews dismantled and replaced the old HVAC
system, relocating 25 terminal units, adding 262 new terminal units and
installing 13 fan coil units, one split system unit, 60 fire dampers and an
exhaust fan. They also installed supporting ducting, pipework and air
distribution. The team followed LEED procedures during construction
—cleaning and storing materials correctly with proper documentation.
