What is career?
Def. (Oxford English Dictionary):
A person’s course or progress through life.
It also pertains to his occupational or professional that usually
involves special training or formal education and is considered to
be a person’s life work
What is career development?
Career development is an ongoing process of gaining knowledge
and improving skills that will help an individual to establish a
career plan.
Career building skills and qualities
Notable skills and qualities for development of career:-
 Communication skill
 Positive attitude
 Self- Consciousness
 Self Confidence
 Firm Determination
 Leadership/ management skills
 Ethics and Integrity
 Creativity
 Decision making ability
 Stress management

 Skills of using technologies
Communication Skill
Meaning:
The ability to convey or share ideas and feeling effectively.
Types:
Speaking, writing, listening and reading
Role in Career Development:
• Improves our chance of getting better
job facilities
• Makes us more efficient at work
• Increases our adaption capacity
• Helps us in becoming more productive
• Gives us the ability to influence others and build relationships
Positive Attitude
Meaning:
Taking any subject positively or keeping outlook to that subject or receiving the subject by
positive mentality

gain support more easily for our ideas and initiatives

Meaning:
Self determination towards oneself i.e. to know well about own good or bad, to have
complete knowledge how it is good and how it is bad

and thus he can understand well when it will
be good to take any decision in his career.
2. Becomes easy to take decision about
future doings
3. Teaches us not to be dependent

Meaning:
Strong faith in own strength, ability and competency

Meaning:
The process of imposing on anyone the charge of coordinating
and controlling. In other words, it means the process of
conducting the work, controlling over it and inspiring the
workers.

5. Develops personality and individuality

Reflection of such code of rules and behaviors which are
expected from a professional in his profession, i.e. to observe
honesty, discipline, transparency, liability, rules and regulations.
