Project proposal title and date:
‘Cosy Trading’ 18/04/22
Main area of activity:
The main media I will use for this project will be animation through Photoshop.
Rationale:
I had some Photoshop experience before starting this course but over the year I have developed
those skills and feel confident in my ability to use Photoshop to complete what I want to do, I am
able to resolve issues I find by researching it online as well. I have also learnt how to use Premier
Pro. Over the past year I have created a music video, audio soundscape, magazine and
advertising and animation. My previous project will push me to create something more detailed as I
was not pleased about the intricacy of it.
Over the course of the year, I found that I was able to work more efficiently when not relying on
other people’s schedules. Due to the importance of this project, I believe it to be in my best interest
to choose an idea – pixel art animation – that allows me to work alone and able to work on at
home and at college. My work with the music video project has given me skills in Premier Pro
which I had never used until this college year, this will be beneficial when it comes to combining
everything that I have created to make the full trailer. Our audio work will aid me in any sound
effects I create such as footsteps, wind or animal sounds. I will be able to use Foley, another
practice I have learnt this year, though I am not extremely confident in this which is why I want to
create music online using a website called Noteflight so that my audio will not be lacking. I also
think because I am proficient in Noteflight I will be able to create music that is appropriate for the
video game trailer and also effective in aiding the tone. I have found the most effective trailers do
not ignore the importance of the music they use.
Project Concept:
The concept is a ‘slice of life’ cosy game trailer. I want to create the idea of a game where you
have a main objective of going around this town and trading wares between NPCs but there is an
underlying message of hope and kindness in humanity. The trailer should be about 2 minutes long,
hopefully longer. I would like to add a layer of fantasy with the inclusion of mythical animals such
as a dragon or sea serpent.
I need to research more assistance in pixel art for tips on how to create this project. I would also
like to research if there are any better platforms I can use to animate for free, I know a lot of
animators use Aseprite and it is the most recommended application to use but it is costly to buy
when I will most likely only use it for this project or occasionally as a hobby. I would like to watch
tutorials in animation for assistance in how I can complete this project as efficiently as possible. I
know a few pixel artist/animators on YouTube such as ‘AdamCYounis’ and ‘Pixel Architect’. I also
follow ‘Aserash’ on Reddit who publishes very detailed animation work for the game he is
designing – although these are not tutorials they are good for inspiration.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I plan to evaluate my work done each day briefly and each week in detail. This will help me
understand any shortcomings as I progress. I will also conduct a final full evaluation in how it has
developed. This will aid me in the future as it will help me become more competent at self-analysis.
