2. DISTRICT INDUSTRIES CENTRE (DIC)
Launched in 1978 with the objective of promoting small village and cottage industries in a particular
area.
Provide all the necessary services and support to facilitate entrepreneurs in setting up MSMEs.
Established by the Department of Commerce & Industry of the respective state.
Number of schemes have been launched by DICs i.e., PMEGP, DIC loan scheme, seed money scheme,
district awards scheme, EDTP.
Functions:- a) Preparation of industrial profile of the district
b) Assist entrepreneurs in obtaining licenses
c) Manpower assessment concerning skilled, semi-skilled labour
d) Prepare techno-economic feasibility report
e) Advise entrepreneurs on investments made
3. SMALL INDUSTRIES SERVICE INSTITUTES (SISI)
SISI’s are set-up one in each state to provide consultancy and training to small and prospective
entrepreneurs.
The activities of SISs are co-ordinate by the industrial management training division of the DC, SSI
office (New Delhi).
In all there are 28 SISI’s and 30 Branch SISI’s set up in state capitals and other places all over the
country.
Functions:- a) Conducting EDPs all over the country
b) To advise the Central and State governments on policy matters relating to small
industry development
c) To provide market information to the SISI’s
d) Conduct economic and technical surveys and prepare techno-economic feasible reports
for selected areas and industries.
e) To assist in testing of raw materials and products of SSIs, their inspection and quality
control
4. NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP &
SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT (NIESBUD)
NIESBUD is an apex body for co-ordinating and overseeing the activities of various institutions and
agencies engaged in entrepreneurship development particularly in the area of small-scale industry.
Established in 1983 by Govt. Of India
It is a society under the Govt. Of India society act of 1860.
Functions:- a) assisting/supporting EDPs
b) creation and capacity building of EDP institutions
c) national/international forum for exchange of ideas and experiences
d) sustaining entrepreneurship
e) developing entrepreneurial culture
Certified as an ISO:9001-2008
5. ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT
INSTITUTE OF INDIA (EDII)
Autonomous and not-for-profit institute.
Established in the year 1983
Sponsored by SBI, IDBI bank Ltd., IFCI bank Ltd., and ICICI bank Ltd.
Set up 12 state level exclusive entrepreneurship development centers and institutes.
Functions:- a) promoting micro entreprises at rural areas
b) participating in institutional building efforts
c) inculcating spirit ‘entrepreneurship’ in youth.
d) improving managerial capabilities
e) collaborating with other organisations
6. NATIONAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
DEVELOPMENT BOARD (NEDB)
The main objective of NEDB is promotion of entrepreneurship for encouraging self-employment in small
scale industries and small business.
Functions:- a) to identify and remove entry barriers for potential entrepreneurs.
b) to facilitate the consolidation, growth and diversification of existing entrepreneurial venture
in all possible ways.
c) to support agencies in the area of entrepreneurship about the current requirement of growth.
d) Act as catalyst to institutionalize entrepreneurship development by supporting and
strengthening state level institutions for entrepreneurship development.
e) Support skill up-gradation and renewal of learning processes among practicing entrepreneurs
and managers of small and medium enterprises.
