Our second annual Day in the Country was a huge success,
thanks to all of the sponsors, attendees, and volunteers who
made the day possible. Through the leadership of our four presenting sponsors,
the event gathered representatives from over 40 companies together for a day
of fishing, skeet shooting, naturalist tours, cornhole, and relaxing at Genteel
Plantation.
The evening ended with Middle of the Island Barbecue, live bluegrass music,
and tastings of Trey Herring Bourbon and Ocean South Importer’s wine selec-
tions. Thank you to the Harrelson family for hosting this event.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next year for another fun filled day!

This spring we were honored as the Nonprofit Winner for the Coastal
Entrepreneur Awards, an award presented by the Greater Wilmington
Business Journal in collaboration with UNCW’s Center for Innovation and
Entrepreneurship. The Coastal Entrepreneur Awards bring awareness to
entrepreneurial endeavors birthed in the Cape Fear Region. The Harrelson
Center was recognized because of it’s good business model, the work our partners
do, and the impact of our Angel Outreach Ministry.
Presenter Becky O’Daniell emphasized the synergy among our nonprofit partners
and how our shared resources use funding more efficiently. She said the center
meets the needs of people we serve through collaboration and the judges were
amazed by our business concept. Please visit our website for links to the awards
presentation and our feature story in the business journal!
Many Thanks to the
Ministering Circle!
WARM Makes Waves
at The Harrelson Center
Wilmington Area
Rebuilding Ministry is
now hosting summer
worship services in our
courtyard for volunteer groups.
WARM began the Make Waves weekly worship services
as a way “to build community at the center and create
relationships with the
volunteers,” said Neal
Turner, Construction
Coordinator. Student
groups can now end their
day of service in worship
with fellow volunteers,
leaders, WARM staff, and
others at The Center!
Many thanks to the Ministering Circle of
Wilmington who recently donated $5,000 to The
Harrelson Center. We are grateful for your support,
which helps us meet the needs of our partners and
those served at the center. Shannon Wells, currently
serving as President, said they are thrilled to make
this gift to the center.

A Safe Place, formerly known as Centre of Redemption, has been a partner of the Harrelson Center for over
two years. The outreach center for A Safe Place, located at the center, gives girls and women who’ve been
trafficked a safe place to stay during the day in close proximity to law enforcement. Girls meet with law
enforcement as needed. The program has been a great success, and last year A Safe Place needed to expand
their space to meet growing demands and to serve more clients.
Last year A Safe Place was able to help 39 young girls and women who were victims of sex trafficking.

Jerri Holliday, Executive Director of Phillipians 3 Ministries, was awarded the
Rachel Freeman Unsung Hero Award at the YWCA Women of Achievement
Breakfast. Many who know Jerri refer to her as the heartbeat of the Harrelson
Center. “She is a survivor, one who has over come adversity with God’s help,” said
Jennipher Love, Harrelson Center Outreach Coordinator, when asked about Jerri’s
impact on the community.
Jerri has her own story of past trials and suffering, and she has made it her
mission through Philippians 3 Ministries to bring hope and healing to those who
are homeless, the nearly homeless who reside in shelters, and re-entry clients from
drug treatment and incarceration.
Philippians 3 Ministries has been a partner at the Harrelson Center for over
six years. Their mission is to provide men and women with various forms of
assistance, such as food baskets and interview clothing, to move forward to a
better place in life. Last year they served 289 people.
Congratulations Jerri on this highly deserved honor!

PC3 College Ministry SERVES at The Harrelson Center
This spring we had a group of about 30 volun-
teers visit the center from the College Overflow
Ministry of Port City Community Church.
PC3 kicked off the first annual “Serve Day,” a
Saturday for hundreds of college students to get
out into the community and serve in a variety
of ways. Groups of students also volunteered
directly for some of our partner organizations
including Habitat for Humanity, WARM, and
A Safe Place. Thank you all for your hard work
and dedication!
Partner Networking & Social Events
Throughout the
year we host
educational &
networking events
for our partner
organizations.
Recently, we held
the Reaching
Milennials
Fundraising
Workshop by Mission
Advancement, Quickbooks training by Terry Santore of
Quicksilver Business Solutions, and an ice cream social.
These events are a great opportunities for collaboration,
networking, and fun!

The Harrelson Center is in the beginning stages of the Unlock Hope
Capital Campaign. This campaign will help the center raise the funds
necessary for renovations to the fourth floor of the building and
three story original jail tower. These renovations are necessary for the
expansion of two of our current
partners, Phoenix Employment
Ministry and A Safe Place. Many
nonprofits want to move into
the center, and renovations will
transform the space into rentable
office and programming areas.
The committee invites you to
come take a tour of the center!
Tours are offered on the first
Wednesday of every month at 11
a.m.
2015 Donor Appreciation Reception
This May we had the opportunity to
celebrate a successful year and say thank
you to many center supporters with
a relaxed spring evening at The Surf
Club. Many people who were pres-
ent have supported the growth of the
center since the beginning stages, over 10
years ago. Executive Director Vicki Dull
said, “It’s important for us to stop and say thank you and celebrate how
far we’ve come.”
We are grateful to everyone who supports the center. Thank you for
your dedication and involvement with the center and for helping us get
to where we are today. We hope that everyone will join us at the center
soon to take a tour and see some of the renova-
tions we’ve recently completed!
The Central Wilmington Rotary Club recently presented
donations to several local nonprofits and The Harrelson
Center was among them. Two of our partners, WARM
and Habitat for Humanity, also received support. From
everyone at The Harrelson Center, thank you for your
contributions!
New Friend of the Center:
YogaVillage
We’re excited to welcome YogaVillage as a new friend of the Har-
relson Center! Now you can take a yoga class on Thursday evenings
at 6 p.m. in our covered courtyard. Class is held rain or shine and
is donation based. Bring your own mat and we hope to see you out
there soon! All levels are welcome.

Angel Outreach Ministry
Laura’s Story
Laura came to the Harrelson Center in early spring after finding a new
job. Her job requires a specific uniform, and in order to start working she
needed a pair of black work shoes.
The Harrelson Center Angel Outreach program pro-
vided the funding for her shoes, and our Outreach
Coordinator took Laura to the store to try them on.
Laura came back to visit the center a few weeks later.
She said she’s enjoying her job and making steps
forward to rent an apartment.
Laura says she feels like this position has opened
new doors for her and she’s only moving up from
here! Pictured from left to right, Laura and our Out-
reach Coordinator Jennipher Love.

  • 2. This spring we were honored as the Nonprofit Winner for the Coastal Entrepreneur Awards, an award presented by the Greater Wilmington Business Journal in collaboration with UNCW’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The Coastal Entrepreneur Awards bring awareness to entrepreneurial endeavors birthed in the Cape Fear Region. The Harrelson Center was recognized because of it’s good business model, the work our partners do, and the impact of our Angel Outreach Ministry. Presenter Becky O’Daniell emphasized the synergy among our nonprofit partners and how our shared resources use funding more efficiently. She said the center meets the needs of people we serve through collaboration and the judges were amazed by our business concept. Please visit our website for links to the awards presentation and our feature story in the business journal! Many Thanks to the Ministering Circle! WARM Makes Waves at The Harrelson Center Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry is now hosting summer worship services in our courtyard for volunteer groups. WARM began the Make Waves weekly worship services as a way “to build community at the center and create relationships with the volunteers,” said Neal Turner, Construction Coordinator. Student groups can now end their day of service in worship with fellow volunteers, leaders, WARM staff, and others at The Center! Many thanks to the Ministering Circle of Wilmington who recently donated $5,000 to The Harrelson Center. We are grateful for your support, which helps us meet the needs of our partners and those served at the center. Shannon Wells, currently serving as President, said they are thrilled to make this gift to the center. 2015 Nonprofit Winner for the Greater Wilmington Business Journal Coastal Entrepreneur Award
  • 3. BEFORE AFTER A Safe Place, formerly known as Centre of Redemption, has been a partner of the Harrelson Center for over two years. The outreach center for A Safe Place, located at the center, gives girls and women who’ve been trafficked a safe place to stay during the day in close proximity to law enforcement. Girls meet with law enforcement as needed. The program has been a great success, and last year A Safe Place needed to expand their space to meet growing demands and to serve more clients. Last year A Safe Place was able to help 39 young girls and women who were victims of sex trafficking. To learn more about A Safe Place and ways you can get involved with the organization, visit www. asafeplacetogo.com. Jerri Holliday, Executive Director of Phillipians 3 Ministries, was awarded the Rachel Freeman Unsung Hero Award at the YWCA Women of Achievement Breakfast. Many who know Jerri refer to her as the heartbeat of the Harrelson Center. “She is a survivor, one who has over come adversity with God’s help,” said Jennipher Love, Harrelson Center Outreach Coordinator, when asked about Jerri’s impact on the community. Jerri has her own story of past trials and suffering, and she has made it her mission through Philippians 3 Ministries to bring hope and healing to those who are homeless, the nearly homeless who reside in shelters, and re-entry clients from drug treatment and incarceration. Philippians 3 Ministries has been a partner at the Harrelson Center for over six years. Their mission is to provide men and women with various forms of assistance, such as food baskets and interview clothing, to move forward to a better place in life. Last year they served 289 people. Congratulations Jerri on this highly deserved honor! First Harrelson Center Partner Expands to Fourth Floor Space Jerri Holliday Receives Rachel Freeman Unsung Hero Award

  • 6. PC3 College Ministry SERVES at The Harrelson Center This spring we had a group of about 30 volun- teers visit the center from the College Overflow Ministry of Port City Community Church. PC3 kicked off the first annual “Serve Day,” a Saturday for hundreds of college students to get out into the community and serve in a variety of ways. Groups of students also volunteered directly for some of our partner organizations including Habitat for Humanity, WARM, and A Safe Place. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication! Partner Networking & Social Events Throughout the year we host educational & networking events for our partner organizations. Recently, we held the Reaching Milennials Fundraising Workshop by Mission Advancement, Quickbooks training by Terry Santore of Quicksilver Business Solutions, and an ice cream social. These events are a great opportunities for collaboration, networking, and fun! Meet the Harrelson Center Unlock Hope Leadership Team: Claude Bridger - Chair Bill Anlyan Kimberly Exum Carlton Fisher Mike Queen Advisory Committee: Mary Jo Cameron Bobby Harrelson Nina McLean Lillian Smith Harry Williams The Harrelson Center is in the beginning stages of the Unlock Hope Capital Campaign. This campaign will help the center raise the funds necessary for renovations to the fourth floor of the building and three story original jail tower. These renovations are necessary for the expansion of two of our current partners, Phoenix Employment Ministry and A Safe Place. Many nonprofits want to move into the center, and renovations will transform the space into rentable office and programming areas. The committee invites you to come take a tour of the center! Tours are offered on the first Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m.
  • 7. 2015 Donor Appreciation Reception This May we had the opportunity to celebrate a successful year and say thank you to many center supporters with a relaxed spring evening at The Surf Club. Many people who were pres- ent have supported the growth of the center since the beginning stages, over 10 years ago. Executive Director Vicki Dull said, “It’s important for us to stop and say thank you and celebrate how far we’ve come.” We are grateful to everyone who supports the center. Thank you for your dedication and involvement with the center and for helping us get to where we are today. We hope that everyone will join us at the center soon to take a tour and see some of the renova- tions we’ve recently completed! The Central Wilmington Rotary Club recently presented donations to several local nonprofits and The Harrelson Center was among them. Two of our partners, WARM and Habitat for Humanity, also received support. From everyone at The Harrelson Center, thank you for your contributions! New Friend of the Center: YogaVillage We’re excited to welcome YogaVillage as a new friend of the Har- relson Center! Her job requires a specific uniform, and in order to start working she needed a pair of black work shoes. The Harrelson Center Angel Outreach program pro- vided the funding for her shoes, and our Outreach Coordinator took Laura to the store to try them on. Laura came back to visit the center a few weeks later. She said she’s enjoying her job and making steps forward to rent an apartment. Laura says she feels like this position has opened new doors for her and she’s only moving up from here! Pictured from left to right, Laura and our Out- reach Coordinator Jennipher Love.
