2. The first shot notifies the audience the
trailer has been approved for
appropriate audiences which is over
17s as the trailer is rated R.
The next two shots for the trailer
“Legend” introduces the viewer to the
production companies which are
Universal and Crosscreek Pictures.
3. The third shot which sets the
trailer is a birds eye view then
becoming a establishing shot of
an old car to show the audience
the time period and the setting
which is 1960s London . This to
familiarize the audience with the
settings and time throughout the
duration of the movie.
4. The next few shots is are a mixture of wide and close up shots to introduce the two
main characters . However the two main characters are both played by the same actor
Tom Hardy, the director made it evidently clear through mannerisms, Characteristics
and costume that the audience could tell who was Reggie and who was Ronnie. In the
first close up you see Reggie he’s costume is more relaxed than Ronnie despite both
being suited and booted you can tell who's who due to the glasses Ronnie’s character
is wearing. These shots along with the rest of the film is filmed by tricks both classic
and contemporary to show the characters in the same shot using split screen method.
The filmmakers would shoot the scene twice , then shoot the image to appear on the
other half of the screen with the two positions reversed.
5. The next few shots in the trailer presents the viewer
with the characteristics of the character Reggie . The
voice over on the trailer describes Reggie as a violent
paranoid schizophrenic, in addition you see this in
the context of the shots. The first shot is a Mid shot
of Reggie before he hits the antagonist.
This shot is an establishing shot
showing a psychiatric hospital. This
backs up the description of Reggie
as you normally link a psychiatric
hospital with mental illness.
This shot is a close up of Reggie.
The viewer knows this is Reggie
due to his glasses as this is this the
distinctive prop that tells them
apart. Reggie’s facial expression
suggests to the audience that he
has a lot of pent up anger.
6. This shot is a mid shot with the two brothers
in , again it’s using a split shot method. This
shot tells the viewers about the two
characters mannerisms and personalities.
Reggie is picking up a gun ready to open fire
due to his aggressive behavior and Ronnie
the more calmer of the two puts his hand
out to stop and almost warn his brother. This
also could suggest to the viewers that Ronnie
is almost a parental figure for Reggie as he's
action is almost like a parent telling their
child to behave and be obedient.
This shot is an establishing shot of
Ronnie looking out into London skyline.
This shot suggests to the viewer that
one day The Kray twins would one day
run London.
7. This shot tells the viewers that the film is based on a True Story. Many
viewers may already know this as The Kray’s were notorious gangsters
in the 1960s whom run London. However if the trailers being streamed
in another country it informs the audience that this is all non-fiction
and that these events actually occurred.
8. The next shot is an Long shot.
In this shot you see Ronnie
over seeing his men dropping
of their earnings from violent
meet ups and Drugs and Jobs.
This shot is a close up of
the Money earned. The
money introduces to the
audience that The Kray’s
were becoming superior
and feared due to the
violent acts they did
This is an Over the shoulder shot of
Ronnie talking to his love interest.
The stitches and bruises on his face
introduce to the audience the
violence of their job, despite
Ronnie’s vulnerability after being
beaten up his character still
appears as charming.
9. This shot is a long establishing shot
showing the audience a new set of
character’s and showing a new setting.
From their uniforms and the surroundings
it shows a Police station. By the way the
characters are standing it suggests they're
almost superhero like and are going to take
down The Kray’s.
This shot is an over the shoulder
shot. The background shows up close
mug shots of The Krays’s, there is
also a map and documents which
shows that they know the Kray’s
whereabouts and will find them.
This close up shot shows
dominance from the constable
in charge. In addition the
images of the Kray’s behind
suggest to the viewer that
they know what's gonna
happen and to watch their
back.
10. The title screen shows the
word Love which contrasts
with the establishing shot of a
Wedding . This emphasizes
despite being involved in a
criminal industry you still have
to find love and there's room
for love.
The title screen shows the word
Fight and again it contrasts with the
shot which is an establishing shot of
a man hanging up and getting
tortured which signifies the power
the Kray’s had also symbolizes for
the viewer that many people
wanted to be apart of their circle
11. The title page says Live which
again contrasts with the
establishing of Ronnie with a
Shetland Pony and everyone
looking at him because he’s
living the high life.
The title page says Rule
which again contrasts with
the long shot of the court
room with a jury.
12. The last few scenes again show a black
screen with a word printed the last word
is Like a Legend this contrasts with the
movies name as some did think the
Kray's were Legends. It then shows the
brothers in different snippets acting like
legends. The first shot is an long
establishing shot which shows Reggie
with a gun in his coat pocket aiming at
another antagonist. The scene shows
power from Reggie as the antagonist
looks stunned and the on lookers wary
of his next move. The next shot is a high
shot of Ronnie although the high shot
itself almost always make the subject
seem vulnerable or powerless in this
case the shot informs the viewers that
Ronnie is probably in the bad books with
his wife. He also appears charming and
smug due to his hand gesture and the
bunch of flowers in his hand.
13. The last shot is a title
screen with the name of
the film Legend.
This tells the audience
when the films going to be
released. It also creates
anticipation for the
audience.
