The Six City Strategy – Open and smart services
strategy for sustainable urban development
• The strategy aims at creating new know-how,
business and jobs
• Carried out by the six largest cities in Finland:
• Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tampere, Turku and Oulu
• Carried out in 2014–2020, with support from
EU/ERDF, Integrated Territorial Investment tool
• The six largest cities in Finland, covering
1/3 of country’s population and over 50% of GDP
3. Objectives of the Six City Strategy
• Improve the services offered by cities, increase the
competitiveness of businesses and enable more widespread
participation in development work.
• As a result, cities will be better equipped to respond to future
challenges and promote sustainable urban development
• Also improves the service processes and their functionality
across the municipal borders
