How do I like to learn?

   VAK learning Styles
 Multiple intelligence tests
The world is full of different things:

                       Different people

                                          Even potatoes are
                                          different – some
  Different animals even look like
                                                frogs!

EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT – AND EVERYONE LEARNS DIFFERENTLY
Learning in different ways
       “Every person has a learning style;
it’s as individual as a signature.”
                What does this mean?

You need to know You need to be able
what your preferred to try new learning
learning style is styles out – the
AND be confident in more you can use
       using it.                   the stronger
                                learner you will be!
How do you like to learn?
 MAIN AIMS:
 • To find out how your brain prefers to learn.
 • To use these to build a profile of me as a learner.

There are lots of ideas on preferred learning styles
today we are going to look at just 2 of them.
   VAK (visual, auditory & kinaesthetic).
    Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences.
VAK
Visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners
         • Visual – Seeing and reading. (29%)
         • Auditory – Speaking and listening. (34%)
         • Kinaesthetic – touching and doing. (37%)

Visual – Diagrams, charts, pictures, PowerPoint,
                   video or posters.
Auditory – Sounds of voices (teacher, student or
V on a video). Peer presentations.

A Kinaesthetic – Touching, feeling, sorting
activities, field trips and acting /
     K role play.
Multiple Intelligence Theory
• GOOD NEWS!!! Everyone is equally
  intelligent – in different ways.
• There are around 8 ‘intelligences’ or things
that different people are good at.
Most of us are strong in
   about 3 of these areas.
If you know your strong areas
you will know how you learn
             best.
You will also know how to
  develop your weaker areas.
Find out what you prefer…..
Activity
1. On Moodle you will find 2 different resources
which will help you find out what your preferred
   learning style is.
       - VAK (visual, auditory & kinaesthetic).
       - Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences.

2. When you have completed them make sure that
you add what you find out to your learner profile
   sheet.
Review so far…..
MAIN AIMS:
• To find out how your brain prefers to learn.
• To use these to build a profile of me as a learner.

Activity 2 – Review
• What has this taught you about how you learn best?
• How could you use this knowledge in school?
• How could you use it at home (eg. when preparing for
  tests/assessments)?
• Why do you think it is important to also continue to develop your
  weaker styles?
