What is Coaching?
C
Coaching views both parties (client and coach) as natural, creative, resourceful and whole.
Coaching does not diagnose or treat or even teach. Coaching is a peer-to-peer expert
relationship. Coaching focuses on evolving and manifesting potential focused on the present
and the future. Coaching is Action and Solution focused, Coaching explores positive
behaviours whilst trying to understand and overcome any limiting beliefs that stand in the way
of clients achieving their goals. The Coaches skills include Empathy, Level 3 Listening, Power
Questions, Goal Setting, Establishing trust, Planning, Accountability, Relationship Management
and Conflict Resolution
Coaches and their clients form an alliance which includes accountability and measurements for
success.
Coaching
MMentoring is a relationship in which an experienced person (the mentor)
assists another (the mentoree) in developing specific skills and knowledge that
will enhance the less-experienced person’s professional and personal growth.
A mentor usually leads by example.
Meetings between Mentors and Mentees are usually informal and unstructured
and seldom include measurements for success
Mentoring
T Trainers teach a particular skill or type of behaviour through practice and
instruction. They have some expert knowledge in content matter. The trainer
works toward a learning objective that the trainer has set and the client
(trainee) is expected to learn that knowledge.
Training
T
A therapist views their clients through a medical model and looks to diagnose
and treat mental conditions. They are the expert in the relationship. The
therapist usually concerns themselves with the past history of a client and how
past events are impacting on their present situation.
Accountability is usually not part of the contracted partnership between
therapist and client.
Therapy
And how does Coaching differ from Training or Mentoring or Therapy?

Who are Michelle’s Clients and how do they experience working with her?
I would like to take this opportunity to enthusiastically endorse Michelle Clarke for your executive coaching needs!
Based on my personal assessment of my current knowledge, skills and abilities, I identified my coaching needs in the areas of emotional
intelligence, change management, negotiation and mentoring others. Michelle conducted a 360 feedback on my personal management styles,
strengths and de-railers and helped identify some common themes in my feedback results. She worked with me in developing a need based
coaching program tailored to help facilitate my professional and personal development to the point of individual growth and improved performance.
Over the course of several months, with focused one-on-one discussions, coaching, working through practical challenges and creating a
mechanism for projects and follow-up on specific tasks, Michelle engaged with me to discuss my job and emotions in depth and guided me to a
point where I was comfortable to review my interactions with my peers, leaders and direct staff and make substantive changes in how I engaged
with them. She was incredibly skilled at asking the tough questions that helped me see things from different perspectives, uncovering root causes of
key issues and she then held me accountable for achieving set goals. She did not give advice but rather enabled me to come up with answers.
With her help I have found balance in my work and home life. I have begun to see myself more objectively and able to catch myself before going
down the wrong path whilst reminding self to slow down when necessary. She has assisted in making me a more flexible leader, empowering my
team and ultimately getting more from them with the improved communication style. I have a better handle on how to drive accountability with my
team and empower my team members to grow beyond their current role and duties.
She is not only challenging and insightful, but also patient and understanding, with remarkable instincts and knowledge. I am confident that my
leadership skills have improved as a result of my time with her.
It has been a real adventure with you. Thank you Michelle!

During our 6 month coaching process Michelle was a highly
professional, inspiring and committed coach. One of her great
skills as a coach is in integrating her insights and alternative
perspectives into the conversation, such that one hardly noticed
the 'coaching'. It felt like a natural conversation.
Michelle takes on challenging issues with an empathetic,
but assertive manner which proved pivotal to the success of my
programme. Michelle also shared of herself such that it never
felt too one-sided. Her coaching was undeniably effective.
I am forever grateful for the effort Michelle put into guiding and
supporting me through a challenging career shift.

What is Leadership Coaching?
Leadership Coaching is a one-on-one service to leaders based on the principal that positive changes and enhanced leadership can be leveraged to filter down and
enhance the entire organisation. This service is especially aimed at those individuals who have demonstrated diligence and technical excellence and hence find
themselves in positions of leadership - most often, under-prepared for this new role. Companies appreciate the importance and cost-effectiveness of retaining these
good people, and are committed to investing money into development programs such as Leadership and Executive Coaching.
As this is a Coaching Partnership, not a training situation, leaders can expect conversations to be exploratory and not teaching conversations. Coaching is a questions-
based methodology which aims to tap into a client’s inner expertise, experience, resources and ability to access resources. Together the coach and the client determine
the most critical elements for leadership conversations that lead the client closer toward their leadership goals. The following Six areas of Leadership have been
identified as common across those who are looking to enhance Leadership Gravitas.

! Why is Virtual Coaching (Coaching via Technology) an Impactful Solution?
Skype (or a similar platform) allows us to meet online. You are in the comfort of your preferred coaching venue, and I am in mine. Neither of us needs to drive
anywhere. This save us both time and money and helps to protect the environment.
We can meet no matter where in the world either os us is. This allows continuity in our coaching program. It allows us to share a richer and more diverse
coaching experience as we enjoy the possibility of connecting from different places in the world and developing a broader global mindset mindset.
! ! ! !
Let’s connect for a trial call, to see how we both experience working via technology.
I’ll offer some simple guidelines for how we can make our calls most effective.
We’ll regularly check in with each other, and use the feedback to enhance the way we work
together.
Will we feel connected?

The Next Steps
If you’re ready to explore our next steps in a
coaching process, here is what you need to do:
Say Yes!
! Select a time and date for for our initial briefing meeting
! Be clear on your budget: how much time and money are
you ready to invest in the process?
! Decide which elements of the coaching process you
would like to include
! Bring any suggestions you have to our initial
conversation. I am flexible and open to your ideas.
As the consumer of coaching, I understand that
your investment in personal and brand
development is not easy to value – it requires
part certainty and part faith in terms of ROI. This
is because the success of the coaching services
can only be determined by the commitment of the
participant to take action and practice what he/
she has learned. We will determine the
measurement of success at the start of the
process and continually work toward this. When
we are both committed to the process, and
working toward these defined goals, the long-
term returns will undoubtedly be recognised.
How will we measure the success
of coaching?
