Internet of Things is “Things having identities and
virtual personalities operating in smart spaces
using intelligent interfaces to connect and
communicate within social, environmental, and
Typically, IoT is expected to offer advanced
connectivity of devices, systems, and services
that goes beyond machine to machine
communication(M2M) and covers a variety of
protocols, domains, and applications.
The interconnection of these embedded devices
(including smart objects), is expected to usher in
automation in nearly all fields, while also enabling
advanced applications like a smart grid.
Things, in the IoT, can refer to a wide variety of
devices such as heart monitoring
implants, biochip transponders on farm animals,
electric clams in coastal waters, automobiles with
built-in sensors, or field operation devices that
assist fire-fighters in search and rescue.
Digital convergence erodes boundaries
APIs become digital glue
Business takes ownership of process and
Sensors and devices drive ecosystems
Infrastructure takes on engagement
The IoT has a wide application range depending
on the network type, scale, coverage, and user
To ensure familiarity rather than foisting IoT on
consumers, companies are considering
smartening their existing appliances with cheap
wireless chips and sensors.
Connectivity: The IoT doesn't work without the
right type and scale of networks in place to
connect the "things" with systems and software.
Analytics: The IoT is all about data. And the
capture, store, collate, interpret, and share
collected information to produce meaningful
insights that can be translated into better
products, services, and business results.
If provided an internship on above specified
area, I intend to work with business units,
To understand the geographic range of the
objects and devices being monitored; what
kind of data they want to collect from the
objects and devices; and how they expect that
data to support products, services, and
corporate decision-making processes.
To understand what data is most important, so
you can prioritize what's to be captured,
analyzed, and shared -- internally and with
customers, partners, and the broader
