This document defines invasive species as non-native plants and animals that harm native biodiversity. It provides two examples: kudzu, a vine originally from Asia that was introduced to the US and has overtaken 7 million acres, growing so quickly that nothing else can survive; and wild hogs from Europe that were brought to the US for hunting and have a population over 2 million, causing $800 million in agricultural damage annually by destroying crops and habitat. The document notes that invasive species can drive other species extinct by changing the environment.
