Silk Roads Trading Game
The Silk Roads were a series of overland and sea trade routes that connected China, India,
Arabia, and Europe. The first routes cropped up during the time of the Han Dynasty, but stayed
in use for more than a thousand years. Despite its name, silk was but one item traded on these
routes. Other items included precious jewels, animals, spices, fruits and even gunpowder.
For this activity, your team has been given a “Shopping List” that you must complete on the silk
roads. You must trade the products you are given in order to complete your list.
With which products did you start?
Which products did you find the most difficult to obtain? Why do you think that is?
Which products did you end up with? Which regions are these items from? Did you meet your
shopping list? If not, what were you unable to get?
Aside from trading consumer goods, what else were the Silk Roads used for?
