Muscles can relax, contract, and provide force to move bones and body parts. There are voluntary muscles that can be controlled and involuntary muscles that cannot be controlled, like the heart. Skeletal muscles move bones and are attached by tendons, while cardiac muscle is only found in the heart and contracts 70 times per minute. Skin is the body's largest organ consisting of three layers - epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. The dermis contains blood vessels, nerves, glands and binds skin to underlying tissue.
2. * A muscle is an organ that can relax, contract,
and provide force to move bones and body parts.
3. • Voluntary muscles are muscles that YOU control
• Involuntary muscles are muscles you cannot
control.
– The muscles in the heart and internal organs
are involuntary muscles
12. • The dermis is the layer of cells directly under the
epidermis
The dermis is a thick
layer and it contains
blood vessels,
nerves, muscles,
oil glands
and sweat glands
13. • Below the dermis is a fatty layer called the
hypodermis
The hypodermis is made up of fat and
connective tissue which is responsible
for binding skin to the tissue beneath it.
14.
15. • Melanin is a pigment
that protects skin and
gives it color
- melanin is produced
by cells in the epidermis
16. • Functions of the skin:
=> protection
=> sensory response (touch)
=> formation of vitamin D (from sunlight)
=> regulation of body temperature (sweat)
=> ridding the body of waste (also sweat)
