2. Why competency is important?
According to Sanghi (2004:2), competency refers to the behaviour by
which it is achieved.
Hogg B in Sanghi (2004:3) refers that “competencies are the
characteristics of a manager that lead to the demonstration of skills
and abilities, which result in effective performance within an
occupational area.”
Competency is important because it describes the traits and
skills and behaviors for a job role, it’s used to establish
performance and development criteria for performance
management, used in the assessment of candidates for a
position, and used in the assessment of people for
leadership and new roles. So, it will create the competitive
advantage of a company when the job competency is
applied.
