We are sure you can make it!
The topic of this first unit is Welcome. This week we are going to study lessons 1, 2, 3,
4 and 6. But let me be a little bit more specific. Check the information below.
As said before, we have 5 lessons to study and 5 days to study them. So, let’s take a
lesson per day.

On the first day, do the three activities in Lesson 1 – Vocabulary. In this lesson you will
learn how to introduce yourself and other people and how to greet people.
On day 2, Lesson 2 presents seven activities teaching how to talk about where people
are from, how to use the simple present of be and how to use subject pronouns.
The six activities for Lesson 3 come on day 6. Let’s learn how to exchange personal
information and use possessive nouns. Then, there are more six activities on day 4,
Lesson 4, teaching us how to talk about countries and languages.
On the last day, enjoy the listening activities in Lesson 6. You’ll listen to people talk
about their schools and answer questions about schools and classes.

How did things go during this first week? We hope you had time to do all your tasks.
It’s also important to tell you how important it is to review the subject. So, before
starting the activities separated for this week, take a day of study to review.
After this review you’re prepared to go on. This week, as a suggestion, your duties
will be separated like this:
On the same day you review the previous subject, prepare the vocabulary of the book
A Special Kind o Neighborhood.
On the second day of this week, study the seven activities of Lesson 5 in Unit 1. You’ll
learn how to ask and answer questions about the class and people. Start reading the
book A Special Kind of Neighborhood and divide the reading until page 19 during
three days of study.

On the third day of this week, study the seven activities of Lesson 7 where you’ll read
information about class expectations and learn how to use capital letters and
punctuation correctly. Also, take this day to study the activities for Lesson 8, the lesson
that shows the video. You’ll watch and listen to people describe themselves.
The fourth day is an important day for us. Use this day to do the unit end pages and
the questionnaire. Also, finish the activities of the book A Special Kind of
Neighborhood. Watch the video and answer the quiz. In the end of the book, you’ll
also read a 326-page text about Berlin.
Well, finally this is the last day of the week and we have already finished Unit 1. So,
let’s study Lessons 1 and 2 in Unit 2. Lesson 1 has eight activities on vocabulary that
will teach you vocabulary for classroom objects.
In Lesson 2 we’ll have six activities to learn how to complete a paragraph about things
in a classroom, use singular and plural nouns, use articles with singular nouns and
pronounce the final –s in plural nouns.

Before starting the third week of studies, it’s a good idea to review what we have
studied so far. So, just to let us keep more focused, here’s a simple list of how much
we have achieved:
We can …
… introduce ourselves and other people.
… greet people when we meet them.
… talk about people’s nationality.
… ask and answer questions about people, school and classes.
… read information about classes expectations.
Can you imagine in which situations you would use this knowledge? For example, if
you studied in an international university, how would you make new friends? Try to
think about situations in which you would use your new skills. This is really practical!

First of all, start preparing the vocabulary for the book Making a Thai Boxing
Champion. The book talks about Thai boys who start training to become boxers at a
very young age. Why is boxing so important to them? This week you will discover.
On this same day study the six activities in Lesson 3, Unit 2 where you’ll learn how to
write sentences about things in a classroom.
On the second day start reading the pages of the book Making a Thai Boxing
Champion and divide the pages of the book in three days of study. Besides this, study
Lesson C and learn how to describe a school.
Day three is to focus on the five activities of Lesson 4 and learn how to ask and answer
questions about a school.

The Listening lesson, that is, Lesson 6, is to be studied on the fourth day. There are five
activities and you’ll listen to conversations about time and classroom objects.
Think about your classroom. In how many classrooms do you study? Do you take all
your classes in the same room? Do you have a favorite room? What is there in this
room? Is there a computer? Are there windows?
Well, the last day of this week is dedicated to Lesson 7 – Reading and Writing.
Throughout the six activities in this lesson you’ll read information about a student in
the U.S.
Also, on this last day watch the video and take the quiz for the book Making a Thai
Boxing Champion. Did you discover what makes a champion? The complementary
reading in the end of the book is about the man who created judo.

What do you think about starting the week by doing the unit end pages activities and
reviewing what you learned in unit 2? It’s a good idea, isn’t it? Another important
thing we have to do this week is to study Lesson 8. There are only four activities and
you’ll watch and listen to students talking about their classes.
This way we are going to have 4 study days this week, that will be separated as
suggested below.
On the second day of this week let’s start Unit 3. Lesson 1 has six vocabulary activities
that will teach you how to talk about family relationships.
Day 3 is separated to learn how to talk about family relationships using the possessive
adjectives. Do you come from a big or a small family?

Day 4 presents eight activities where you will learn how to ask and answer questions
about personal information. If you meet a person for the first time, what questions
could you ask? Can you think of questions you could never ask? Yes, asking how old
the person s might not be a good idea.
Finally, let’s finish the week learning how to talk about jobs and workplaces. This
knowledge is in Lesson 4 that presents six activities.
What’s your major? Can you think about your future career?

Are you around? So, let’s get started!
During this week we will read the book Gorilla Watching Tours. The book is about
Africa’s mountain gorillas. Did you know that the gorilla population has been getting
smaller for many years?
You already know how to divide the book, don’t you? Well, just in case – one day to
prepare the vocabulary, 3 days to read the pages and one final day to watch the video,
answer the quiz and read the complementary text. Can I count on you?
So, now let’s divide our duties per day.

On the first day, study both Lessons 5 and 6. Lesson 5 has five activities on grammar
where you will talk about people and their jobs. Lesson 6 has four activities on
listening where you will listen for numbers, listen to descriptions of people, and also
listen to and answer questions about someone’s job.
Lessons 7 and 8 will be studied on the second day. Let me be more specific. Lesson 7
contains six activities to teach you how to read information about three families. And
Lesson 8 has five video activities where you will watch and listen to people describe
themselves and their families.
Take the third day to review all the subject studied so far and to do the unit end pages.

It’s time to start unit 4. This unit is called Home. On the fourth day study Lesson 1 and
on the fifth day study Lesson 2.
Lesson 1 has seven activities to teach you how to talk about places in an apartment
building as well as good and bad features in an apartment.
Lesson 2 contains eight activities on grammar where you will be able to identify rooms
and furniture.
Do you study near home or do you live in the university campus? Can you describe the
place where you live? It’s a good exercise to practice what you are learning this week.

This week will be focused in Unit 4. We’ll not finish it, but there’s a lot to learn.
So, let’s go!
We can concentrate on a lesson per day. So: day 1 – Lesson 3, day 2 – Lesson 4, day 3 –
Lesson 5, day 4 – Lesson 6 and day 5 – Lesson 7.
Lesson 3 has six activities teaching you how to describe where furniture is in a home.
Close your eyes and think about your bedroom. Where is the bed? Is it under the
window? Or maybe next to the armchair? What about the living room – is there a sofa
between two posters?
Lesson 4 has eight activities in which you will learn vocabulary for places in a
neighborhood, use can and talk about thing people do at different places.

Lesson 5 is the last grammar lesson in this unit. There are five activities still dealing
with prepositions of location, but this time you will see places on a map. Where can
you buy aspirin? Yes, at the pharmacy. Is there a pharmacy near here? Oh, thank you,
so it’s just across from the bakery!
In Lesson 6, the activities will give you the opportunity to ask and answer questions
about location, listen to conversations about places in a neighborhood and also listen
to a conversation about an apartment. Think about a familiar place for you, it can be
your house or the university. What is there near this place? Is there a bakery? A shoe
shop? Where exactly is the gas station?
Lesson 7 deals with how to organize information and read information about two
immigrant communities.

I’d recommend we divide this week in two parts. Take the two first days to finish Unit
4. The other three days will be used to study the four first units in Unit 5.
Besides this, read the book Living with a Volcano. The book says that in Sicily, Italy,
there are several towns near a large volcano. Why do people live in such a dangerous
place? Would you like to visit a volcano? I don’t think so, I think I’d be afraid. Imagine
living near one!
So, next you will see what each lesson has for us.

The video in Lesson 8 shows people describing their dream houses. Can you picture
your dream house? How many room are there in it? Is there a special room for you,
such as a library? Maybe, but I can guarantee there is a wonderful swimming pool! Am
I right? I think so. On this same day do the unit end pages and review the subject.
Unit 4 was useful to let us describe the place where we live. We can describe not only
our house, but also out neighborhood.
And now it’s time to start our last unit. Unit 5 is called A Typical Day. Can you imagine
what you will learn? That’s good – you’ll learn how to describe your routine.
So, on day 2 study Lesson 1 that contains seven activities teaching you to talk about
what people do every day. By the way, what do you do every day? I can tell you that I
get up early, then I go to work. I think many people do the same.

Lesson 2 is for day 3. There are seven activities to show how to use the simple present
tense to talk about wat people do every day.
In Lesson 3, we’ll learn to say not only what people do, but also when they do things.
The six activities that follow will teach you how to use time expressions and also how
to describe the order in which people do things. My friend Beth first goes to work,
then she takes a break to have breakfast. She doesn’t like to eat anything early in the
morning. Do you anyone like her?
On our last day we have Lesson 4. This lesson is on talking about a person’s weekly
schedule. Do you remember my friend Beth? Well, she takes yoga classes on
Wednesdays. But on Tuesdays and Thursdays she studies German after work. She is a
busy girl.

Well, this is a special week, because it’s the end of the first part of level 2.
Let’s take the first day to study the last grammar lesson. Lesson 5 has seven activities
that teach you how to talk about what time people do things. Do you study in the
morning? And what time does your class start? At 8:00?
Lesson 6 is for day 2. You will have four activities to listen to a person’s weekly
schedule.
On day 3 let’s study Lesson 7. You’ll read an article about walking and read about what
a bus driver does every day.

Day 4 for is to be dedicated to the four activities of Lesson 8. Let’s watch and listen to
people talking about what they do every day. And this is the end of one more unit.
On the last day, before doing the unit end pages, separate a few minutes to review the
subject.
Unit 5 was important to teach us how to talk about our daily routine. This unit is also
special because it teaches us how to use the simple present. This verb tense will be
used all the time, which means this is a really relevant unit.

The book Birds in Paradise talks about a man who has dedicated his life to study the
birds in Trinidad and Tobago. He’s trying to photograph all of he 460 types of birds on
the island. The problem is that there is a special bird that is hard to find. You’ll read
the book to discover if he succeeds.
Remember that you have your deadline to take the Progress Test.

This week we are going to study lessons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. But let me be a little bit more specific. Check the information below. As said before, we have 5 lessons to study and 5 days to study them. The six activities for Lesson 3 come on day 6. Let’s learn how to exchange personal information and use possessive nouns. Then, there are more six activities on day 4, Lesson 4, teaching us how to talk about countries and languages. On the last day, enjoy the listening activities in Lesson 6. You’ll listen to people talk about their schools and answer questions about schools and classes. Well, it was a great week, wasn’t it?

This week, as a suggestion, your duties will be separated like this: On the same day you review the previous subject, prepare the vocabulary of the book A Special Kind o Neighborhood. On the second day of this week, study the seven activities of Lesson 5 in Unit 1. You’ll learn how to ask and answer questions about the class and people. Start reading the book A Special Kind of Neighborhood and divide the reading until page 19 during three days of study.

Use this day to do the unit end pages and the questionnaire. Also, finish the activities of the book A Special Kind of Neighborhood. Watch the video and answer the quiz. In the end of the book, you’ll also read a 326-page text about Berlin. Well, finally this is the last day of the week and we have already finished Unit 1. So, let’s study Lessons 1 and 2 in Unit 2. Lesson 1 has eight activities on vocabulary that will teach you vocabulary for classroom objects. In Lesson 2 we’ll have six activities to learn how to complete a paragraph about things in a classroom, use singular and plural nouns, use articles with singular nouns and pronounce the final –s in plural nouns.

On this same day study the six activities in Lesson 3, Unit 2 where you’ll learn how to write sentences about things in a classroom. On the second day start reading the pages of the book Making a Thai Boxing Champion and divide the pages of the book in three days of study. Besides this, study Lesson C and learn how to describe a school. Day three is to focus on the five activities of Lesson 4 and learn how to ask and answer questions about a school.

Well, the last day of this week is dedicated to Lesson 7 – Reading and Writing. Throughout the six activities in this lesson you’ll read information about a student in the U.S. Also, on this last day watch the video and take the quiz for the book Making a Thai Boxing Champion. Did you discover what makes a champion? The complementary reading in the end of the book is about the man who created judo. Congratulations on having studied one more week!

Lesson 1 has six vocabulary activities that will teach you how to talk about family relationships. Day 3 is separated to learn how to talk about family relationships using the possessive adjectives. Lesson 2 contains eight activities on grammar where you will be able to identify rooms and furniture. Do you study near home or do you live in the university campus? Can you describe the place where you live? It’s a good exercise to practice what you are learning this week.

Lesson 3 has six activities teaching you how to describe where furniture is in a home. Close your eyes and think about your bedroom. Where is the bed? Is it under the window? Or maybe next to the armchair? What about the living room – is there a sofa between two posters? Lesson 4 has eight activities in which you will learn vocabulary for places in a neighborhood, use can and talk about thing people do at different places.

There are five activities still dealing with prepositions of location, but this time you will see places on a map. Where can you buy aspirin? Yes, at the pharmacy. Is there a pharmacy near here? Oh, thank you, so it’s just across from the bakery! In Lesson 6, the activities will give you the opportunity to ask and answer questions about location, listen to conversations about places in a neighborhood and also listen to a conversation about an apartment. Think about a familiar place for you, it can be your house or the university. What is there near this place? Is there a bakery? A shoe shop? Where exactly is the gas station? Lesson 7 deals with how to organize information and read information about two immigrant communities. See you next week!

Nível 2 - Parte 1 I’d recommend we divide this week in two parts. Take the two first days to finish Unit 4. The other three days will be used to study the four first units in Unit 5. Besides this, read the book Living with a Volcano. The book says that in Sicily, Italy, there are several towns near a large volcano. Why do people live in such a dangerous place? Would you like to visit a volcano? I don’t think so, I think I’d be afraid. Imagine living near one! So, next you will see what each lesson has for us.
