2. Plagiarism
● Plagiarism: The act of taking someones work and
making it seem like it's your own.
● Plagiarism is illegal and is counted as a criminal
offense. People have been sued and fined money
while others have gone to jail.
● Plagiarism is unfair and disrespectful to the author of
the work you're taking. It's unfair do to them not getting
the credit they deserve and it's also disrespectful
because you took their work without asking.
3. Plagiarism:How to Avoid it?
● If you use a sentence, paragraph, or quote put
quotations around it and site where you got it from.
● A way to avoid plagiarism all together would be to put
what you need in your own words.
● Even if you paraphrase someones work you'll still have
to put it in quotations and site where it came from.
● If you use someones work word for word it's the same
process.
4. Plagiarism: Punishments
● If a professor is guilty of plagiarism they are forced to
leave their job.
● College students get a failed grade and the situation
gets reported to the head of the college.
● The student could get sued and also get a mark on
their personal file.
5. Copyright
● Copyright: Gives you ownership of your work. It also
gives you the right put your work on the internet or out
in public and the right to share it with others.
● You have a choice to give up your rights but if you
don't no one can use your without your permission.
● Using someones work that has a copyright claim is
illegal.
6. Copyright: How to Avoid it?
● Understand that the law of copyright can't stop you
from rephrasing things but you still have to put
references.
● Don't take anything from the internet because the
majority of the time it is copyright.
● If there is a chance that you do take something from
the internet make sure it is not copyrighted.
7. Netiquette
● Netiquette: Simply means etiquette on the internet or
show of good manners and behavior.
● Netiquette means to not use inappropriate language
on the internet and not to be rude to anyone.
● Also, don't put your information out in the open. Don't
type in all caps because someone could take that as
you yelling at them.
8. Types of Netiquette
● There are four different types of netiquette and they
are netiquette basics, netiquette of sending,
netiquette of replying, and netiquette of confidentially.
● Netiquette basics is helping others and research a
topic before you ask a question about it. With
netiquette of sending try to keep things short.
Netiquette of replying is about reading the message
well before you reply. Last, netiquette of confidentially
is don't put other people's email addresses out for
everyone to see and if you read a forward or message
that has been sent to you don't send it to someone
else.
