2. Jon - My Football Hero
One day my little boy of three
With great big smiling eyes
Said, “I’m going to play some football mom
With all the bigger guys!”
Dressed in homemade football gear
You raced out towards the street
I chuckled to myself, but yet...
My heart plunged to my feet.
You came back in fifteen minutes
No scratches on your skin
With much dismay you then announced,
“They wouldn’t let me in”!
You claimed they said you couldn’t play
Because you were too small
I promised you you’d play one day
When you grew strong and tall.
My promise to you held so true
For now that time is here,
My smiling football player
Is in his senior year
I’m proud of you and all you’ve done
And for all that you will be
If I just had one wish, I’d wish
That you could still be three.
3. This, My Football Hero, poem is
about a little boy who wants to play
football but, his parents are scared
for him. The mood is scared. This
poem used approximate rhyme
throughout it. His parents are so
scared because it says he is so
small. He is not allowed into the
game because he isn’t big enough.
His parents promises him when he
grows big and tall that he will be able
to play football.
4. A Champion
By Brian Ford
A Champion isn't someone that always comes in
first,
A Champion isn't someone that is the best,
A Champion isn't someone that tells how good he or
she is,
A Champion isn't someone that has to be a
champion.
A Champion is someone that has the heart to come
in first,
A Champion is someone that tries his or her hardest
to become the best,
A Champion is someone that shows, not tells, how
good he or she is,
A Champion is someone who is already a
champion,
because he or she has already accomplished their
goals.
A Champion is someone that strives to become
better, stronger, faster, harder to beat.
Yes, a lot of you can say you are a winner,
but are you a champion?
5. The poem, A Champion, describes
traits you need to have to strive and be
the best. It also shows that to be a
champion you do not always have to
come in first. You have to learn from
failure and get back up and work
harder. The mood of this poem is
motivational to be the best. This poem
uses alliteration. This is because at the
beginning of every line it starts with “A
champion is” or “A champion isn’t”
6. True Leaders
By Jessica Taylor
Leaders are like eagles,
They learn to fly high.
They soar above the others,
Way up in the sky.
They don't set out to be one,
But become one instead.
When all heads are turned,
They are always there,
Giving the team that little extra,
That little push,
That little shove.
In the time it's needed the most,
They are standing out,
But they don't seem to know,
That in the roughest times of all,
Their job is most important,
'Cause they become the second coach,
Without taking notice.
7. The poem, True Leaders, is explaining
how to be a great motivator or leader on
your team. Being a leader is not just
beneficial to you but everyone around
you. If you are a captain leading by
example then others will follow you and
do what you are doing. This will get the
best out of everyone on your team. Also,
being a leader means you have to pick up
your teammates when they are down.
Doing this will build a family between all
the players on the team. This poems
mood is intense. It is trying to get the
point across of working hard and being a
true leader.
9. The Love of the Game is about a person
getting prepared to play in a game on
Friday night. The mood seems to be
nervous and a little scared. This poems
seems to use a ballad. It is telling a story of
how the boy is getting ready in very short
stanzas. Also, in those stanzas it uses
assonance. It is rhyming every other line.
10. "Prayer of a sportsman"
Dear Lord, in the battle that goes on through life
I ask but a field that is fair,
A chance that is equal with all in the strife,
A courage to strive and to dare;
And if should win, let it be by the code
With my faith and my honor held high;
And if I should lose, let me stand by the road,
And cheer as the winners go by.
And Lord, may my shouts be ungrudging and clear,
A tribute that comes from the heart,
And let me not cherish a snarl or a sneer
Or play any sniveling part;
Let me say, "There they ride, on whom laurel's
bestowed
Since they played the game better than I."
Let me stand with a smile by the side of the road,
And cheer as the winners go by.
So grant me to conquer, if conquer I can,
By proving my worth in the fray,
But teach me to lose like a regular man,
And not like a craven, I pray;
Let me take off my hat to the warriors who strode
To victory splendid and high,
Yea, teach me to stand by the side of the road
And cheer as the winners go by.
11. Prayer of a Sportsman is a
short prayer to show whether
we lose or win that we are
thankful for everything and that
we will not give up. It wants you
to cheer for the other time if we
were to lose. But, in the end it is
all about conquering the other
team and winning the game.
This poem seems to be a
complete free verse but all with
a great meaning. The mood is
happy, just to be able to play
the game we love.
12. Friday Night Lights
14 to nothing,
Before the half
All the games, but one, have passed
Seasons ending early, due to injury
Compares nothing to the loss of a
brotherhood; a family.
Friday night lights
So many dog-fights
In the end, we all sacrificed
To me football is a thing of the past
Just one more thing I wish would last
Stepping out on the field one last time,
Brings a tear to my eye
A half-hour past nine
Time to pack up, and head back home
Never again will I touch that end zone
The big hits are gone
No more players of the week
No more happy valleys
Or Thursdays to eat; before the game
No more fame
I’m proud to have played football for this
team,
For that I’m not ashamed.

13. Friday Night Lights talks about a
former high school football player
missing those old times on the field.
He wishes he could get back out
there with his family. There are two
long stanzas with rhyming every three
or four lines. The mood is sad
because, he misses everything. Its
something that you can not take for
granted.
15. Quitting is not the Way consists many
stanzas four lines each. It shows you
need mental toughness. It also will
make you feel guilty if you quit. Your
team needs you and wants you. You
could be a key factor in a game. Also, if
you quit you will never have a chance
to be a winner. The mood is very
motivational to encourage others to try
and succeed without quitting.
16. "Football Uniform"
Football Uniform
I remember watching you out upon the field.
In the Seventh grade, you were with a helmet as your
shield.
The uniform just hung upon your skinny frame.
The number on the jersey was your only name.
I washed and soaked those football pants time and
time again.
I often said a little prayer for our team’s little men.
I hung the jersey out to dry with hopes of victory.
Watching how you were growing now for the entire
world to see.
You grew in size physically, as well as character too.
I realized how the time has passed and the years they
just flew.
For as I wash your uniform after this game that is
your last,
I hope and pray you remember the lessons from
seasons past.
Winning is very glorifying and is definitely the
most fun.
Sometimes, however, you did everything
there was to be done.
Yet the score didn't’t reflect the hard work
and preparation the team put in.
And you had to support each other with
compassion without the win.
I stand here proudly staring at your number
upon this shirt.
I am wishing for more days that it would be
filled with dirt.
My mind will hold forever the picture of my
son.
Waiting for his name to be called and on the
field he’d run.
My little skinny boy has now become a man.
In life he will go now and do the best he can.
Football has taught him, teamwork and unity.
God, I pray, You help him become the best
that he can be.

17. Football Uniform is about a boy starting
in 7th grade. His parents enjoy him
playing the game. It talks about how
football was key way of him growing in
character. It seems the mood is proud. It
has shaped this boy into being a good
man. This poem also contains many
stanzas along with some rhyming.
19. It is one large stanza. It talks about never
giving up on life. And when life is hard get
back up and make the best of it. It says to
not give it up but live it up and show
toughness to get through it. Life is never
easy you just have to make the best of it.
Also, the mood is very motivational.
20. Friday Night Lights
A cold chill across your back,
you ought to know what will
happen next. The lights flash
on the crowd grows dense, you
lace your shoes and get one last
stretch. The tunnel awaits,
people stomping their feet, it's
time for Victory. It's time for a
fight. You rush onto the field
with nothing but Pride. You're
about to leave it all. For tonight
is
21. This poem gives me chills thinking about
Friday nights. Talking about the crowd going
wild and the dense air walking out onto that
field. I can’t wait to be back out there. Its four
stanzas with few rhyming. The mood is
nervous getting ready to take the field
22. I am happy and a Michigan fan
I wonder if Nik Stauskas will stay
I hear a basketball dribbling
I see a national championship
I want to go to a game
I am happy and a Michigan fan
I pretend I’m Trey Burke
I feel like a champion
I touch trophies
I worry about failure
I cry when I lose
I am happy and a Michigan fan
I understand sports
I say
I dream of a state title
I hope we win
I am happy and a Michigan fan

24. Five Senses
School is black and white
It tastes like sour milk
It sounds like nails on a chalkboard
And smells like gross sweat
It looks like angry teachers
And makes you feel like the devil in hell
25. Beautiful Stadiums
Bleachers with warm, loud air
White cold snow on the field
Scoreboards over the place
with frost
Green shining turf
everywhere
26. The cool nighttime sky
Expects a beautiful moon light
With falling stars
I believe in the football gods
The influence of hard work
The importance of success
The courage of others
The Holy Spirit
But cockiness will get you no where
I believe in family first
I believer in God
I believe in team being family
And I believe in the fact that
Nothing is ever a garuntee
