16. DISCUSSION DRAFT v 3.0 Advisory Board (AB) Continuum of Involvement (ABCI) (Part of a Comprehensive AB Growth and Engagement strategy) The ABCI contains a series of pre-scheduled activities and events with suggested timeframes based on grade levels of Academy students, in which AB members can participate. Laying out this ABCI well in advance of the actual date of the activities allows AB members to plan in advance, book the activity(ies) on their calendars, and coordinate their involvement with the Academy Director. The ABCI includes other activities at certain times of the school year to support the students’ current position in the Academy and needs. It also dovetails with activities and AB involvement included in the Internship and Curriculum Getting Started Guides. The Advisory Board Continuum of Involvement should be introduced and used during an Academy’s annual Strategic Planning meeting, typically held in the August or early September timeframe. See the Advisory Board News article entitled Strategic Planning on the Collaboration Network for more information about running a Strategic Planning meeting. Of course, not every activity needs to be implemented at the same time. This ABCI can be phased in over several years, allowing AB members to get comfortable with the various activities. But for new Academies (YOP included) as well as existing Academies with a long history of AB involvement, this ABCI should prove to be a good resource to help encourage and schedule more AB involvement and deeper engagement. This in turn may lead to increased sustainability of AB members and their companies. If you have any questions about this ABCI , or about AB involvement in general, please contact Charlie Katz, Director of Advisory Board Development at [email_address] or at 646-761-0786. Welcome people to the web conference. Some basic things to clarify regarding this format: I can’t see your faces. You may be multitasking or daydreaming on me. Maybe you’re not even there. This is not typical of a live presentation. You’re all going to be muted, for ease of presentation. If you have questions or comments, type them into the chat, and my colleague will monitor. Assuming you are here, this discussion will focus on four questions: Why, Who, What, and How. Since our upcoming conference is going to be in Philadelphia, I thought it might be interesting to review this through the lens of history.
