Steve Gilbert:
There was a lack of clarity at board level about how the business
should be run and what the future strategy should be. The
business lacked focus and client satisfaction was in decline
consequently the business was fast becoming dysfunctional. I was
contracted to carry out a major review of the business then
implement and define the structure needed to support a strategy
that would improve board level leadership, team performance,
client relationships, revenue and profits.
Client:
Steve quickly got to grips with the political landscape, structure and
direction of the business and helped us to re-focus the business.
Success was achieved by Steve’s ability to define a structure that
supported a strategic way forward that was supported and
approved by all stakeholders.

Main challenges:
The company was struggling to maintain client satisfaction and this
was leading to issues around strategy in the boardroom and a high
attrition rate. The knock on effect led to a drop in sales which in turn
led to negative conflict and political manoeuvring which was
damaging the reputation as both a place to work and as an
organisation to do business with
Overcoming the challenges:
Several workshops were held to establish how the company had
grown with its people and its clients and how effective it was. The
first action was to implement a structure based on the output of the
workshops that had helped to define strategy and responsibilities.
The next was to ensure that the portfolio was maximised to its
strengths and that marketing and sales were aligned with the
delivery heads. The next action was to engage with the board and
define how they would engage and support the business including
ownership of clients

What value was your role to them:
The attrition rate dropped drastically and several leavers returned
and potential leavers remained. Revenue and profit started to
improve, as did the relationship with clients to a point where new
business from existing clients doubled and new business started to
develop in a highly developed sales campaign. The CFO engaged
more effectively and new additions at management included
marketing, practice director and sales as well as a non-executive
with both a strong legal and HR background. The success was
delivered through a comprehensive business analysis and review, the
ability to provide change management in terms of strategy and
structure as well as understanding, behaviours, attitudes and
motivations of people and leaders. It was also about defining
competency and accountability and facilitating action across the
whole organisation spectrum to address the key challenges.
Profile: Steve Gilbert
Steve’s experience is in director, partner and senior executive roles
developing business, organisations and people across several key
sectors from small start-up companies and SMEs to global
organisations. His experience extends into multi-stakeholder, diverse,
complex businesses and major commercial projects to individual
interventions and advisory.
More recently Steve has focused his attention to organisation and
leadership development helping companies develop greater
understanding and effectiveness in these areas. This is combined with
his knowledge and experience of managing teams, restructuring and
aligning organisation both intra and inter-organisational. He is also
founder and managing director of Casuga Consulting offering
organisation effectiveness and works as an associate with several key
organisations and academic institutions in the field of organisation and
leadership development. He joins NXD as Regional Director for the
East of England with the intention of focusing on helping individuals
become non-executive directors, also to increase the knowledge and
understanding for SMEs to more effectively recruit and ultilise non-
execs into their organisation structure.

Delivering Organisation Effectiveness for a Small Consulting Company through Leadership, Alignment and Accountability Steve Gilbert: There was a lack of clarity at board level about how the business should be run and what the future strategy should be. The business lacked focus and client satisfaction was in decline consequently the business was fast becoming dysfunctional. I was contracted to carry out a major review of the business then implement and define the structure needed to support a strategy that would improve board level leadership, team performance, client relationships, revenue and profits. Client: Steve quickly got to grips with the political landscape, structure and direction of the business and helped us to re-focus the business. Success was achieved by Steve’s ability to define a structure that supported a strategic way forward that was supported and approved by all stakeholders.

Delivering Organisation Effectiveness for a Small Consulting Company through Leadership, Alignment and Accountability Main challenges: The company was struggling to maintain client satisfaction and this was leading to issues around strategy in the boardroom and a high attrition rate. The knock on effect led to a drop in sales which in turn led to negative conflict and political manoeuvring which was damaging the reputation as both a place to work and as an organisation to do business with Overcoming the challenges: Several workshops were held to establish how the company had grown with its people and its clients and how effective it was. The first action was to implement a structure based on the output of the workshops that had helped to define strategy and responsibilities. The next was to ensure that the portfolio was maximised to its strengths and that marketing and sales were aligned with the delivery heads. The next action was to engage with the board and define how they would engage and support the business including ownership of clients

Delivering Organisation Effectiveness for a Small Consulting Company through Leadership, Alignment and Accountability What value was your role to them: The attrition rate dropped drastically and several leavers returned and potential leavers remained. Revenue and profit started to improve, as did the relationship with clients to a point where new business from existing clients doubled and new business started to develop in a highly developed sales campaign. The CFO engaged more effectively and new additions at management included marketing, practice director and sales as well as a non-executive with both a strong legal and HR background. The success was delivered through a comprehensive business analysis and review, the ability to provide change management in terms of strategy and structure as well as understanding, behaviours, attitudes and motivations of people and leaders. It was also about defining competency and accountability and facilitating action across the whole organisation spectrum to address the key challenges.

Profile: Steve Gilbert Steve’s experience is in director, partner and senior executive roles developing business, organisations and people across several key sectors from small start-up companies and SMEs to global organisations. His experience extends into multi-stakeholder, diverse, complex businesses and major commercial projects to individual interventions and advisory. More recently Steve has focused his attention to organisation and leadership development helping companies develop greater understanding and effectiveness in these areas. This is combined with his knowledge and experience of managing teams, restructuring and aligning organisation both intra and inter-organisational. He is also founder and managing director of Casuga Consulting offering organisation effectiveness and works as an associate with several key organisations and academic institutions in the field of organisation and leadership development. He joins NXD as Regional Director for the East of England with the intention of focusing on helping individuals become non-executive directors, also to increase the knowledge and understanding for SMEs to more effectively recruit and ultilise non- execs into their organisation structure.
