Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's collection is often
mentioned in recent history. Her collection is believed to
be so extensive that it is kept in a special room
underneath Buckingham Palace. The room is said to
cover an area the size of a skating rink.
The Queen's collection contains many significant rare
jewels of note, one of which is the Timur Ruby. Despite
its name, the Timur Ruby is not a Ruby, but actually, a
spinel which weighs more than 352 karats.
3. Timur Ruby
The Timur Ruby has a long history which is traced
back to 1398 when a Turko-Mongol ruler named
Timur acquired the jewel when he sacked Delhi,
India. The ruby-like stone then passed through
several owners including Shah Jehan and
Farukhsiyar. It was not until 1851 when it was
presented to Queen Victoria by the East India
Company that the Timur Ruby became a part of the
Royal Family's collection.
