Letter from the Founder Trustee
Haselfre Foundation was born out of a deep desire to improve the quality of education for
children. As I recall my life in the last three decades, in the small villages, and towns across the
country, it was in the eyes of children of India that I saw the future of the country. I could see
zest, fervor and an intense desire to move ahead, individually and collectively without any
concern for the hardships they faced. All they wanted was a chance, an opportunity. Haselfre
Foundation is dedicated to providing just that so as to as make a mark on education and
livelihoods.
Haselfre Foundation is dedicated to crossing any hurdle to achieve this goal.
Our foundation is teaming up with partners who share our goal to take on some tough
problems in facing citizens of India from the bottom of the pyramid: extreme poverty and poor
access to opportunities for education and livelihoods, poor infrastructure, and very low
systemic support. We focus on these issues in particular because we think they are the biggest
barriers that prevent the citizens from making the most of their lives. An important initiative
that we have successfully embarked on is ‘Nidara’ – that focuses on Holistic Development of
Children in K - 12, which inspires children to realize their potential, do well in academics and
life.
For each issue we work on, we seek funds for innovative ideas that could help remove these
barriers: new techniques to help children in low income neighborhoods to gain education skills
for employment, new pathways to seek employment; new methods to help youth and their
families in their daily lives.
Some of the methods we fund will fail. We not only accept that, we expect it—because we
think an essential role of philanthropy is to make bets on promising solutions that governments
and businesses can’t afford to make. As we learn which bets pay off, we have to adjust our
strategies and share the results so everyone can benefit.
We believe by doing these things—focusing on a few big goals and working with our partners
on innovative solutions—we can help every citizen in India from the bottom of the pyramid to
get the chance to live a healthy, productive life. Your help is invaluable.

Our Story
Improving quality of life of citizens is the key for economic empowerment. Haselfrë Foundation believes in this
cause and thus focuses all its efforts on assisting citizens through helping people build a better life for themselves.
Our experience in working through practical initiatives in different states within India has made us realize the need
for innovative mechanisms to realize our goals.
Haselfre Foundation was launched in June 2011 as an instrument by which the five goals could be realized. We
fulfill this mission by using Haselfre Foundation for programs that are aligned with our focus areas, promote
collaboration and effective use of philanthropic resources, corporate resources, and individual contributions.
Our Mission & Guiding Principles
Our Mission
To improve the quality of education for children
Our Guiding Principles
Haselfre Foundation affirms and promotes three fundamental principles:
1. Everyone has the right to quality education
2. Children have the right to realize their potential, do well in academics and life
3. Every employee and partner of Haselfre Foundation shares our common values of: integrity, personal
ownership, teamwork and excellence
Values
Follow the definition of Child development that refers to biological, psychological & emotional changes that occur
in human beings between birth and the end of adolescence, as the individual child progresses from dependency to
autonomy. Integrate Holistic education for the child for success in Academic learning, Age appropriateness and
skills for life.1
Where We Work
Haselfre Foundation is at present operational in Tamil Nadu and Meghalaya and talks are on with the stakeholders
in other States of India.
1 Life Skill Development is an important element of the child’s digital education and child development initiative. In order for
Life Skill Development to play its part effectively in the changing national context and for India to enjoy the fruits of the
demographic dividend, there is an urgent need to redefine the critical elements of imparting Life Skill education and training to
make them flexible, contemporary, relevant, inclusive and creative.
