What is graduate
unemployment?
Graduate unemployment refers to the
situation where individuals who have
recently completed their studies at the
university level are unable to find gainful
employment. In other word, it is an
unemployment with an academic degree.
Introduction
Graduate unemployment is a persistent serious issue in a educated
community in Bangladesh.
This problem does not belong to low academic qualification as the
university enrollment is increasing.
According to a report from Economic Intelligence Unit rate of graduate
unemployment is 47% (Asadullah,2014).

Corruption, capacity mismatch, outdated curricula, small job market,
flawed education system, absence of job specialization, political
influence in the recruitment process were the leading reasons for
graduates unemployment of students (Rashid,2019)
This problem further creates problem like cycle of poverty, hindering
the growth and development of the country

and demand.
Vocational and other training facilities is not being able to keep up the

Growing expectations on them from families adds up with frustration
and depression marching towards a lost generation.

Graduate unemployment is a pressing issue in Bangladesh with a wide
range of causes.
The impact on society is severe, including poverty, reduced social
mobility, increased crime and reduced economic growth.
Addressing the issue requires government and private sector
cooperation to create job opportunities for young professionals.
A better approach is needed, including updated curriculum, promoting
entrepreneurship, and a better national human resources plan.
