• In 2003, he left Tehelka.
12. WHAT IS MATCH FIXING ?
• In organized sports, match fixing occurs as a match is played to a
completely or partially pre-determined result, violating the rules of the
game and often the law.
• There is a variety of reason for this, but the most common is in exchange for
a payoff from gamblers. Players might also intentionally perform poorly to
get an advantage in the future, such as a better draft pick, or an easier
opponent in a playoff. A player might also play poorly to rig a handicap
system.

colleagues, after the South Africa cricket match fixing scandal involving Hansie Cronje in
March 2000.
• Prabhakar and Bahal went around the country and Prabhakar, wearing hidden recording
equipment, attended meetings with important Indian cricket board officials (BCCI) and
players.
• He recorded conversations where they talked about links between players and bookmakers,
matches being thrown in return for money, deliberate run-outs and the names of players
involved. They recorded more than 40 hours of taped conversations, which the Central Bureau
of Investigation (CBI) used as evidence for its own inquiry. The CBI implicated
• Mohammad Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja and Ajay Sharma as the cricketers involved.[14] The
documentary Fallen Heroes:The Betrayal of a Nation, which was released in May of the same
year, showed Prabhakar's work and Bahal published his report on Tehelka.com.

started when Gavasker was the captain .. developed when Kapil Dev became captain
and peaked when Azharudheen was the captain.
CONVO WITH JAYLAND LELE - He tells that the only member in the team whose true

The game went on as it was already been told and Sachin did his best and made the
country enter the finals.
18. TEHELKA JETGATE EXPOSE (2013)
• A Tehelka investigation into Jet Airways exposes how VIPs, politicians and civil

civil aviation)

commissioner with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security) took his family to 28
the world in the past few years. He reportedly paid only Rs 1 lakh for trips that are
have cost more than Rs 6 crore.
19. CONTD

the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as well asVIPs and politicians have been
abusing and misusing their power to enjoy favours from private airlines, the cost of which
runs into crores of rupees And these favours logically make the officials of the regulatory
bodies obliged to return favours to the airlines, for example, in matters such as the
extension of Foreign AircrewTemporary Authorisation

of an aircraft registered in India shall make available, free of charge, a seat on the aircraft

husband of Priyanka Gandhi had been upgraded from economy to first class upon
requests from his office at least eight times on the New Delhi-London-New Delhi sector.

20. COMMENTS
“Meanwhile, in India, the BJP-led government has contracted an acute case of snout-in-
trough disease. The sting operation carried out by the excellent website tehelka - what a
difference the internet has made to press freedoms in India! - showed many of the country's
leaders accepting bribes on videotape”
- SALMAN RUSHDIE (2001).
Who said investigative journalism was dead? tehelka.com has invented an effective new
technique. The news portal has exposed the ugly face and grasping hands of corruption in
high places…Now tehelka allows everyone to see what actually goes on in the corridors of
power, to hear talk of buying political access as if it is about buying onions.
- EDITORIAL (2001)
“The tehelka exposé is a positive measure by the Fourth Estate to clean up the corrupt
administrative and political systems of our country… Instead of lampooning the tehelka
team, the government should have expressed its gratitude towards the journalists, who
played a unique role in exposing corruption…Indian politics is no longer the same after the
tehelka exposé.”
