In this case study, we summarize the design, results, outcomes, and benefits of conducting a series of online touchpoints for creating educational materials with key opinion leaders.
In the first of two planned touchpoints, the client used the online discussion forum to gather important insights from senior medical cannabis dispensary representatives on their practice and prescription habits. Moreover, the best ways to educate other practitioners on medical cannabis were also explored. Based on the insights collected, in the second touchpoint, the advisors subsequently co-authored a medical-approved educational slide deck on the prescription and clinical implications of medical cannabis using the platform’s asynchronous annotation and selection tools.
In addition, as a third touchpoint, our client leveraged the Impetus InSite Platform®’s Rapid Response tool to get prompt feedback on a potential product acquisition opportunity.
By using Impetus’ online platform, the client was able to not only achieve their goal of devising a strategy for educating physicians, pharmacists, and other practitioners on medical cannabis, but was also able to successfully negotiate a product acquisition based on the advisors’ feedback. Project Case Study » Medical Cannabis Advisory Board July - September 2018
Overview
In anticipation of the upcoming legalization of marijuana in Canada, for this
Virtual Advisory Board, we engaged 8 senior representatives from Medical
Cannabis Dispensaries across the country.
Our client’s objectives were to:
1. Gain insight into the advisors’ approaches for selecting the most
appropriate strain(s) of cannabis for each patient’s particular
symptoms, prescribing medical cannabis for acute and chronic
conditions, and monitoring their patients.
2. Co-author a medical-approved slide deck used to educate physicians,
pharmacists, and other practitioners on the prescription and clinical
implications of medical cannabis.
3. Get immediate feedback on a potential product line acquisition.

2. Touchpoint Breakdown
In the strategic planning stage of this project, Impetus Digital's experienced team of medical and digital specialists gave
recommendations on how to best engage the client's key opinion leaders, with the overall aims of creating a medical-approved slide deck
for educating physicians, pharmacists, and other practitioners, and developing a strategy for ensuring pharmacy buy-in. Impetus Account
Managers then worked with the client to develop a Campaign of Interactions®
(COI), which is a map of the planned advisor touchpoints –
the number, type, and timing of touchpoints required to realize the advisory board objectives and achieve success. In this Medical
Cannabis Advisory Board COI, two online asynchronous touchpoints were originally scheduled from July to September 2018. In addition, a
third “Rapid Response” touchpoint was also conducted in September 2018 in response to a last-minute product line acquisition
opportunity for the client.
Touchpoint 1
Using the Discussion Forum, insights
were collected on the advisors’
approaches to prescribing medical
cannabis for different conditions and
patient populations, monitoring their
patients, and choosing the appropriate
strain(s) for each patient’s particular
symptoms, signs, or disease stage. The
best ways to ensure buy-in and educate
practitioners on medical cannabis were
also explored.
Touchpoint 2
Based on the insights collected in
Touchpoint 1, using the platform’s
asynchronous annotation and selection
tools, the advisors co-authored a
medical-approved educational slide deck
aimed at informing physicians,
pharmacists, and other practitioners on
the prescription and clinical implications
of medical cannabis.
Touchpoint 3
Shortly after Touchpoint 2 was closed,
the client came across an opportunity
related to a potential product line
acquisition. To quickly receive feedback
and advice from the advisors, the Rapid
Response tool was used. The advisors
were sent an email and asked to answer
one question - taking no more than 15
minutes - to gauge their immediate
reaction to the acquisition opportunity.

4. Key Advisor Insights Gathered
The client was able to gain an understanding of the various approaches
used to prescribe medical cannabis for different patients in the advisors’
clinics. In addition, of several different options, a medical-approved slide
deck was considered the most appropriate means for educating physicians
and pharmacists on medical cannabis, and all advisors indicated that they
were interested in co-creating the slide deck together with the client.
1
Based on the insights collected in Touchpoint 1, the client presented the
advisors with a rough outline for an educational slide deck. This slide
deck contained evidence-based information on the potential benefits of
medical cannabis for various conditions, how to choose the best
strain(s) according to different symptoms, and what the patients should
be monitored for. The advisors successfully commented on the outline,
revised and added content, and edited the flow and layout of the slides,
resulting in a near-finished product to be reviewed by the client.
The advisors considered the client’s potential product line
acquisition to be an exciting opportunity that would benefit the client
in the long-term. However, they considered the suggested price to be
too high, giving the client ammunition to negotiate with the seller.

5. Outcomes from the Client’s Campaign of Interactions®
Secure, compliant, and audit-friendly: Leveraging the Impetus InSite Platform’s®
security-first design,
data were collected in a safe and secure manner. If needed, the client will be able to quickly respond to an
internal audit by leveraging the portal's built-in tracking and reporting system.
Strategy for pharmacy buy-in: With the help of the advisors, the client could design a multi-step strategy
for ensuring pharmacy buy-in and to help educate pharmacists and other practitioners on the implications
of medical cannabis following its legalization in Canada.
Educational slide deck: The advisors co-created and edited a medical-approved, evidence-based
educational slide deck. This will be finalized by the client and presented to key stakeholders from
selected pharmacy chains and hospitals throughout the country starting November 2018.
Product acquisition: The client was able to receive immediate advice from 6 out of the 8 advisors
regarding a potential product line acquisition using a Rapid Response touchpoint. This quick feedback
allowed them to promptly go ahead with the acquisition and effectively negotiate with the seller.
Increased frequency of interaction: For the cost of ONE in-person advisory board meeting, the client was
able to interact with the advisors THREE times as much.
