2. Vampiric values in the digital age
Although they are deeply related to our most
primal fears and concerns, mythical monsters and
figures such as vampires also find new meaning
and resonance through each era – hence their
constantly renewed appeal and popularity.
For instance, the reinvention of the vampire myth
in the late XIXth century was not without political
overtones. Indeed, the aristocratic Count Dracula,
alone in his castle, feeding on his peasantry, was
reminiscent of the parasitic Ancien regime. Then
a century later, the Twilight series used vampires
as a way to talk about the ever increasing
teenage angst plaguing western societies.
NOW, AS DIGITAL IS DEEPLY CHANGING OUR LIVES, IT
SEEMS VAMPIRES CAN BOAST YET A NEW MEANING –
BEING A PROPER METAPHOR FOR SEVERAL CURRENT
TRENDS, BE THEY COMPLETELY NEW ONES OR OLD
ONES REVAMPED THROUGH NEW TECHNOLOGY.
6. They may seem lonely in their dark rooms ,

11. « THE NARCISSISM EPIDEMIC,
an inflated view of the self -- is everywhere. Parents teach it by dressing children in
T-shirts that say "Princess." People around the world hone it on Facebook, and
celebrities have elevated it to an art form. The Narcissism Epidemic explores the
rise in narcissism among individuals and, even more disturbingly, in the culture at
large. »
