Requirements
You will be expected to complete a minimum of 4 current event reports for this class
Current events are due "by Thursday" of each week. This means that they will be accepted all
week long (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday), including the actual day it is due (Thursday).
You have an opportunity to submit a fifth current events report for extra credit at the end of the
session, or to make up for a missed report to gain full credit.
Reports are to be in paragraph essay format, not bullet points: 2-3 pages double-spaced, 12 pt.

Assignment
Opening the newspaper or watching a typical newscast is loaded with stories involving economic
principles. The task of this assignment requires you to identify a current event reported in the print or
electronic media and analyze the topic of the article economically.
Complete the following set of inquiries and be sure to attach a copy of the article that you are
analyzing (50 pts. possible).
1) Describe the event – summarize (10 pts.):

Remember to include the title of your article and the name of your source, with link (2pts.)
2) Background Information (16 pts.):
Describe the background or history behind the event. (4 pts.)

What economic principle(s) can be applied to the event or issue? Identify and briefly describe a
specific principle that we have covered in class including the Chapter and Section that the
principle is covered in the textbook. (8 pts.)
3) Impact (12 pts.):
Who or what is affected by it? (6 pts.)
Why is this important? (6 pts.)
4) Conclusion (your opinion):
How does this event or issue affect your life? If it does not, why not? (12 pts.)
