2. SYNOPSIS
Pride and Prejudice is a humorous story of marriage and class among
English gentility during the Georgian era. Mr. Bennet is an English
gentleman living in Hartfordshire with his wife and five daughters;
Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia. Unfortunately, if Mr. Bennet
dies their house will be inherited by a distant cousin who they have
never met, so the family's future is dependent on the daughters
marrying a man with a good income. The story starts at the arrival of
the rich Mr. Bigley, who rents a large house close to the Bennet’s so
he can spend the summer in the country. Mr. Bingley brings his sister
and his close friend Mr. Darcy, who is much richer than him. Love is
soon in the air for Jane, whilst Elizabeth battles on prejudgments that
may stand in her way of happiness.
