This session addresses the critical issue of building and maintaining coalitions within movements. Effective coalitions can provide movement infrastructure and be an organizational hub around which broad strategy and discourse is formed. However, coalitions take effort to establish and maintain, and there are numerous risks and potential stresses that can lead a coalition to failure. This session discusses the costs and benefits of coalition formation, as well as factors that promote or inhibit coalition establishment and sustainability.
