2. Brasília, world capital of the water
• A dream that became real for the Brazilians!
• A modern city that was included in the World
Heritage list by UNESCO
• Created to integrate the country, as it integrates the
water basins (São Francisco, Paraná, Tocantins)
• The Capital of Hope is now world capital of water

3. Inspiration: Sharing Water
• Sharing water as
– Using the same body of water
– Cooperation in planning, implementation, monitoring
financing
– To have the same feelings towards Water (solidarity,
spirituality, ...)
• The Brazilian Water Law (Lei 9.433/1997):
– Descentralization (management of water basins)
– Participation of the whole society in he decison making
process (Water Basin Committees)
– Multiple uses of water

4. Key issues
• Forum virtual, with a plataform to support
discussions
• Focus on sustainability (“Brasília’s Declaration on
Water Sustainability”)
• To strenght the political process since early stages
• To adopt, integrate and reinforce the SDGs within
the 8WWF agenda

5. Key issues
• To reinforce the Regional process so that it can be
in 2018 a landmark of the Forum, with
representatives of all the regions around the tables
• In 2018, less themes and sessions, in depth
discussions
• Citizen Forum (complementary, not alternative)
• On the road to Brasilia (Rumo a Brasília)
