4. Technical Framework – Interoperable pan-
European Grid Services Architecture (IEGSA) 1/2
“An open architecture for sharing data among all participants in the electricity system value
chain (customers, grids, market), from local, regional to EU level. It will enable TSOs, DSOs
and customers to coordinate their efforts to maximise the potential of distributed energy
resources (DERs), demand aggregators and grid assets, so as to procure energy services in a
cost-efficient way and create consumer benefits”

7. OPENDEI – 25.03.2020
OneNet
7
• Project selected in the last call for TDO-DSO-
Customer cooperation
• EU Contribution: 30 Million Euro
• 70 partners to cover grid operators all across Europe
• Coordinator: Fraunhofer FIT – Center for Digital Energy in
Aachen
• OneNet Strategic Objective
• OneNet will develop an open and flexible architecture to
transform the actual European electricity system, which is
often managed in a fragmented country- or area-level way,
into a pan-European smarter and more efficient one, where
market and network technical operations are reciprocally
coordinated closer to real time i) among them, ii) across
different countries iii) while maximizing the consumer
capabilities to participate in an open market structure
8. Open Source and dual use of data as key
ingredient of an open platform
̵ Architectural proposal of H2020 PlatOne:
̵ Multi-layered hybrid IoT/off chain vs
DLT/Blockchain/Smart Contract to
enable:
̵ Consumer access layer
̵ Optimal coordination and operation of
fair and transparent multi-stakeholder
marketplaces
̵ Dual Use of data for market and
technical services
̵ Integration of legacy solutions

9. Putting all together to overcome limits of legacy
solutions
̵ Combining the solutions envisioned in the previous
architecture, here we have:
̵ Secure data link thanks to blockchain
̵ Integration of legacy DMS
̵ Link to market for dual use of data
̵ Integrated data bus for flexible integration of
new services

10. OPENDEI – 25.03.2020
• Main deliverable will be a Universal
Market Enabling Interface (UMEI)
• Through this concept, grids will
become capable of accommodating all
future scenarios through the active
use of grid services, acting as an
extensive toolbox of flexibility
solutions and innovate market
mechanisms
• Enabling Interface (UMEI) will interlink
active system management with
electricity markets and the provision
of flexibility services, taking also into
consideration the activation needs
and the coordination requirements
with both commercial parties and
TSOs
EUniversal: Creating the right links to Flexibility Markets for DSO

11. OPENDEI – 25.03.2020
• This project focuses really on how customers can really become an active player in the
future energy system
• Key contributions are expected in the area of data modeling
INTERCONNECT: bringing the end customer into the picture

12. OPENDEI – 25.03.2020
• To support sector
cooupling and to go also
in the Smart City
direction, it is necessary
to open energy
platforms even further
• FIWARE offers a perfect
solution to break the
sylos and bring data
together

13. OPENDEI – 25.03.2020
• It is not possible to come to a single European platform but we should more talk about
platform of platforms or interaction of platforms
• In this context the key ingredient are the interfaces/interconnectors
• The goal is to enable the widest set of interactions among the players in support of the
vision of a Digital Single Market in Europe
• National situations are different and different will be the implementation country by
country and also within a single country
• Sector coupling is also a key element and together then the integration in the Smart
City. Here a key role is played by the interface to CEF Building blocks such as “Context
Broker” from FIWARE
