Abstract:
In this presentation we will show how a fully open platform serves as catalyst for OPNFV to extend the
open source movement. The OpenPOWER foundation has created a fully open platform with a robust
and growing ecosystem that extended the open source movement to processor memory, I/O interfaces,
firmware, hypervisor and a licensing model that let’s organization build derivate processor and platforms.
OPNFV on OpenPOWER enables networks to leverage multiple platforms to deliver network services to
meet business requirements.
OpenPOWER as an alternative platform to use within a network function virtualization infrastructure
(NFVI). The topics included in the presentation are:

Communication service providers (CSPs) are very interested in creating an open heterogeneous
architecture for network operations. To make this work, CSPs can deploy components from different
vendors and allocats their use according to well defined deployment strategies to meet business
requirements. By following the OPNFV reference architecture, CSPs will now be able to manage and
orchestrate a heterogeneous infrastructure using a common management platform based on OpenStack.
This presentation will show that OPNFV succeeds in creating a carrier-grade, integrated, using an open
source platform that accelerates the introduction of new NFV products and services within a multi-
platform infrastructure environment.
