Background Information
The undergraduate project is considered to be an important part of the
engineering education process and often one of the major pieces of
independent research that a student will undertake. It involves
analysis, design, development and fabrication processes. Students
work independently on a project or work in teams ranging from one to
three. The project is supervised by an expert specialized in the area of
interest.
Project Exhibition creates a platform for undergraduate students to
showcase and demonstrate the innovative projects undertaken to the
university community, industry and the public. Also, it initiates
interactions between the audience – industrial representatives,
academicians and students. The projects will not only be evaluated
but also motivate the students in search of their own engineering
project interest, promote industry involvement in the activities of the
institutions of higher learning, inculcate the culture of entrepreneurship
among the members of the technology by providing the exposure to
the needs of industry and business.
The exhibition will keep the participants intellectually vigorous,
allowing them to make contributions to their field, and enhancing the
quality of their learning. In addition, they will have a realistic
understanding of the discipline, experience in actually creating
solutions and an opportunity to experience first-hand the thrills of
success and frustration of failure. Overall, the exhibition will offer the
participants to develop independent critical thinking skills, collaborative
working skills, oral and written communication and presentation skills
as well as marketing skills, thereby building their confidence.

With the involvement of the industrial sectors, it is believed that the
exhibition will induce more industry-faculty collaborations. The
industrial panels will help the students and researchers by exposing
them to the industrial needs and applications related to the various
fields in engineering and technology and offering an opportunity for
collaborations in research and development as well as in
commercialization. Therefore, the exhibition becomes a platform to
both academicians and industrial panels to exchange opinion and
share their experiences in the engineering field to meet the global trend
in the rapidly evolving technological world.
Overall, undergraduate project and its exhibition will empower students
in hands-on learning; increase retention in the Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines; provide effective
career preparation; encourage critical thinking, creativity, problem
solving, self-confidence and intellectual independence; and promote an
innovation-oriented culture. Exhibition helps students in applying the
concepts learned in coursework in providing solutions to real-life
challenges.
The professional benefits include exploration and preparation of
students for future careers, development of marketing skills,
enhancement of professional communication skills, collaboration of
students with others and effective team-working capability. The
students will grow a critical, analytical and independent thinking skills to
sustain them in meeting challenges and demonstrating the ability to
complete a project. Finally, undergraduate engineering project
exhibition will benefit the students personally, industry specifically and
society generally.
