How effective is the combination of your main task and ancillary task. Oli flitton
Ancillary Task• For my ancillary task I created a DVD cover and a magazine cover for a Childs TV series. From, analysing current covers there were a few clear conventions of each which i used to my advantage, sticking to some and changing some to appeal to my target audience. For example bright colours will always appeal to a young audience so I wouldnt change this, knowing this convention helped me devise a house style which was consistent across both tasks. Other examples would be large images and little text, both of which I used. A convention that could have been challenged and still would have appealed to the target audience is the layout, where is aspect of each of the covers are on the page. These concepts were applied to both ancillary tasks, this ,means the magazine and DVD can be connected, which creates brand identity.
Main task• I used conventions in a similar way to my ancillary tasks in such a way that from analysing current products, i used the ones i believe to be effected and modified others. Colours for each character are stereotypical mostly of gender, also i used props, setting, costume and mise en scene as a whole to create stereotypical characters overall, for example, the ‘cool boy’ had a skate board and the ‘class clown’ wore his tie in a scruffy way. The text used was similar to the DVD and magazine in the way that it looked handwritten so the target audience can relate to the programme. The costumes were also conventional and stereotypical as it was school uniform, each character just wore it in a different way.
