2. Praxinoscope (1867)
The praxionoscope is a moving picture toy that relis on intermittent viewing. It
is viewed through a narrow slit so that you can see a glimpse of each image.
The problem was that the pictures were dim and hard to see. The idea of
using mirrors to replace the slits made the images much brighter and blended
together to give a much smoother effect.

3. Thomas Edison and William Dickson (1865)
Thomas Edison was one of the first to use the 7.6m lengthways slit in film to
use on the kinetoscope parlour. Originally, however he wanted to use film
light-sensitive drums. But him and his partner, William Dickson decided to
produce it with the Kodak still camera on the kinetoscope parlour.

4. Lumiere Brothers (Auguste Lumiere 1862- 1954
and Louis Lumiere 1864-1948)
The Lumiere Brothers were two French brothers who staged what is generally
regarded as the first cinematic showing in the world, involving projection and
payment from the audience.

5. Alice Guy-Blaché (1873 - 1968)
She is regarded as the first female director.

6. DW Griffith (1875- 1948)
He is considered the first cinematic auteur (first director). He revolutionized
motion picture drama. He is credited with first use of the close-up shot. His

7. “The Horse In Motion” (1878)
A compilation of stereoscopic images that when put together gave the effect
of motion. It was created by Eadweard Muybridge.

8. A Trip To The Moon (1902)
A Trip To The Moon (Le Voyage dans la Lune) is a 1902 silent film made by
Georges Méliès. It is regarded to be the earliest made science fiction film. It cn

9. The Great Train Robbery (1903)
The Great Train Robbery is a 1903 silent film. This was the first film to use
editing in order to tell a story and the film roll was over 1,000 feet long. It was

10. Humorous Phases Of Funny Faces (1906)
This film is a silent film cartoon directed by J. Stuart Blackton and could be
considered the first comedy ever made.

11. Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (Nosferatu, eine
Symphonie des Grauens)
Nosferatu was shot in 1921 and released in 1922. It was directed by F.W.
Muranu. It is adapted from the gothic horror novel “Dracula” and a silent
movie horror film. It has had large influence on the horror genre and is
regarded as the first vampire film.

12. Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
(1937)
Walt Disney’s Snow White is the first cel animated feature film and the first
Disney animated feature. It was produced by Walt Disney but directed by
David Hand.

13. The Wizard Of Oz (1939)
The Wizard of Oz was the first motion picture to use Technicolour and had
major infulences on American pop culture. The song “Over the Rainbow” won
an Academy Award For Best Original Song.

14. Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock was a director who has had a massive influence on cinema,
particularly in the horror and thriller genres. Some of his most notable works
include Vertigo (1958), Psycho (1960) and The Birds (1963).

15. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
2001: A Space Odyssey had influences on the genre of science fiction,
including the Star Wars series.

16. Star Wars (1977)
Giantly successful on pop culture and a game changer for the genre of sci-fi,
Star Wars has had major influence on both film and people worldwide. It
evolved into a extremely high grossing and popular franchise. It was also one
of the first movies to list the entire cast and crew in the closing credits.

17. Toy Story (1995)
Toy Story is the first film to be done entirely in computer generated imagery
and is the first feature film made by Pixar.
