4. There are 2 ways to telling the time in French; using
the 12hrs or Military 24hrs GMT;
Either ways, it is important to know how to say the
numbers 1-24 in French because there are 24hrs in a
day;
Also it is important to know basic time indicating
vocabularies like Morning, Noon, Afternoon, Evening,
Night etc;

5. The question phrase always used to ask time is
« quelle heure est-il? » which literally means what
time is it?;
The phrase usually used as a template to answer is

« heures » means hours/time;
In French, we have to put the word « heure (s) »
after the number indicating the time;

(Morning/AM), de l’apres midi (Afternoon/pm), du soir
(Evening). E.g. 6PM= il est six heures du soir;
« A quater past » in French is « et quart » e.g. 3:15(PM)= il
est trois heures et quart (de l’apres midi);
« Half past » in French is « et demie » e.g. (4:30AM) = il est
quatre heures et demie du matin;
6
7. « A quater to… » in French is « ………moins le quart » e.g. 4:
45(PM) = il est cinq heures moins le quart (du soir);
Also one could use the Military time to say the time in French
e.g. 14 o’clock means 2pm. In this case one would translate the
time not as « il est deux heures » but as « il est quartoze
heures » ;
