A Photovoltaic (PV) System:
• A photovoltaic (PV) system is a system composed of
one or more solar panels combined with
an inverter and other electrical and mechanical
hardware that use energy from the Sun to generate
electricity.
Types of PV System:
• The Three Main Types Of PV Systems
1. Off grid solar photovoltaic system
2. On grid solar photovoltaic system
3. Hybrid solar photovoltaic system
Off Grid Solar Photovoltaic System:
• Off grid solar system is also known as offline
system or battery connected system. It is not
connected to the grid.
• Generally it is installed in remote areas where
transmission lines are not present.
On Grid Solar Photovoltaic System:
• On grid solar photovoltaic system generate
electricity for your home or business.
• It is also called online system .it is connected to
the grid.
• it don’t have backup or storage device.
PV System Components:
PV Array Components:
• PV Cells
• Modules
• Arrays
Installation Process:
• Site Qualification and site preparation (civil
works).
• Plan for a sunny location.
• Inverters, batteries, panel etc.
• Wire the Solar modules.
• Understand the wire connections.
• Connect the cables to the control panels.
• Make the Electrical connections inside.
• Connected the Equipments
Load Calculation:
• Total Watt =Total Appliances * Watt
• Total Connected Load =Total no. of appliances * Watt
• Energy Consumed = Running appliances * Time *Watt
• Energy Conservation = Old value – New value
• Panel Selection = 30% add on total running load
• Inverter = Total Load /P.f (p.f - 0.5 to 0.7)
• Life cycle of Battery = Battery AH * Volt
• Battery Charging Time = Battery Ampere hour / Charging
Rate
• Ampere Hour = Amp / 55 *100
Important factor for solar:

• Summer – 24* Angle

Installation factors:-
• Plain roof

Charge Controller:
Solar charge controller manages the power going into
the battery bank from the solar array. It ensures that
the deep cycle batteries are not overcharged during the
day.
Types of charge controller :-
• MPPT (Maximium Power Point Tracking) charge
controller
• PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) charge controller
Inverter:
• An inverter is an electrical device which accepts electrical
current in the form of direct current (DC) and converts it
to alternating current (AC). For solar energy systems.

Application of Solar Energy:

truly renewable energy source.

Disadvantage of solar energy:
• Not available at night or under clouds.
• Relatively high cost
• Requires inverter to produce AC current
• Part Time.
• Environmental impact of pv call production.
• Need Lots Of Space.
• Reliability Dependes On Location.
